We have worked together to make this much needed book to help all those who want to develop a child's language and communication through sign language.
British Sign Language (BSL) is the language of Britain's Deaf community. The growing interest and respect for this language brings a greater demand for child-appropriate, attractive resources of high quality.
We feel strongly that if sign language is used - be it with deaf children, children with learning disabilities, communication and language difficulties or the growing number of Baby Signing with hearing infants - please let it be BSL - it can make such a difference to the future lives of deaf children.
This book is a first for BSL in this format - the signs are well-chosen and illustrated with babies and very young children in mind by experienced professionals - one Deaf and one hearing.
Our backgrounds and experiences inform this work, and we hope that readers will find our approach simple, interesting and enjoyable.
