The familiar format and descriptions are combined with fresh new drawings and include an Introduction that explains; the importance of facial expressions and body language; how to produce negative and positive statements and question forms; sign variations; representative handshapes (classifiers); how some signs can change in context (directional verbs).
The work has been done in collaboration with BSL tutors needing up-to-date materials to support Level 1 Courses and provides fuller details of sign production for those using the LET'S SIGN & WRITE BSL graphics software.
There are also sample pages that MAY BE COPIED as reminder sheets arranged in TOPICS to suit Beginner, Foundation and Level 1 Courses and for schools and families. These include animals, weather, greetings and introductions, family, relationships and occupations.
The Left and Right Handed Fingerspelling Alphabets can also be copied.

This book, by the writer and compiler of Communiction Link (1998) and Signs Make Sense (1990), was created in 2004 to replace and update these earlier publications.
This is the 1st edition of the Let's Sign Dictionary and now this book in its turn has been updated and replaced - by Let's Sign Dictionary Everyday BSL for Learners 2nd Edition Revised & Enlarged - published in June 2009 and also available on amazon.co.uk
The 2nd Edition contains 2,400 signs and is also ordered alphabetically with headings of meanings and captions to describe movements.
The Introduction explains the importance of non-manual features, question forms, sign variations, classifiers, directional verbs and other crucial BSL features. 14 pages arranged in topics that may be copied as handouts.
The work is informed by BSL users nationwide and provides an excellent collection of sign vocabulary for all those teaching and learning BSL.
