Great Simple Sewing projects 24 May 2014
By Jessica Barahona - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Let's Sew Together, by Rubyellen Bratcher is a fun book full of little projects to work on as a family. To be completely honest, I probably would not have gone out and bought this book, but I think it will be really fun to sit down with my daughter, who is showing interest in sewing at 6 years old, and pick out some projects to do together. I like that the book is a combo of machine sewing, hand sewing, and no sewing crafts. They are some great toys, like puppets, a girl doll and a robot doll, play place settings, fruit and veggie softies, etc. There are clothes, little slippers, pencil pouches, and a beautiful map quilt. I love that she really encourages kids to personalize and decorate, using fabric markers on the projects and then embroidering or free hand quilting. There are templates included for projects where they are needed. They all fit on the page and inlcude percentages for sizing up appropriately. This is really my only criticism of the book, I'm not sure that my home printer/copier can do enlargements, so I'd probably have to take it to a copy shop or somewhere with a copier. I wish there were some way to give a unique code inside each book to download the files online or something. There is a simple, thorough introduction that makes this book accessible to beginning sewists. I'd recommend it for beginners as well as for sewists of any level with kids who want ideas for projects to work on together. You can read more info from the publisher here.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Fun family projects! 21 May 2014
By CuteEverything - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I like how so many of the sewing projects are free form and let you use a lot of your own creativity. My kids like to come up with ideas as they are sewing and incorporate them and I really encourage that. A couple of our favorite crafts in the book are the homemade fabric banners and bunting, which work great for a party and also for decorating a child’s room after the party. My daughter loved the giant patchwork dollhouse pillow which she plays with on her bed with her small rag dolls when she’s winding down. I would recommend Let’s Sew Together for fun family activities that also offer the chance to teach basic sewing skills.

There are so many things I loved about this book 30 Aug. 2014
By R. Smith - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
There are so many things I loved about this book. The projects are actually largely new, not all things that I've already seen done online many times before. I loved that they had function, as well as having a good design, and looking nice even to me as the parent. As a homeschooling mother, I have loved the parent as a teacher and child working together aspect as well. However, the lack of full-size patterns is a major deterrent in being able to recommend the book. The time, not to mention expense, and inconvenience, of having to have patterns enlarged, often 300% -400%, is just not something I am able to do at this point.

A Great Sewing Book for Families! 19 Sept. 2014
By Laura Pol - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I was soooooo impressed by this book! When Rubyellen says that its simple projects that the whole family can make in Let’s Sew Together she is not lying or exaggerating! Almost every single craft she gives can involve the help of a child, whether it’s decorating or very basic sewing!

I haven’t had time to actually make one of the crafts in this book, but have read over all of them! She gives clear instructions with pictures that help people like me who are visual learners to understand. I love the variety of sewing projects she includes rather than just focusing on one thing/room! Rubyellen also makes a big emphasis on adding a child’s decoration (such as a drawing) into the projects which I really like!

However by far my favorite thing that truly caught me by surprise is how there are “teaching moments” as well as “read it together” boxes with every craft! So cool! Now I not only can get my family involved in the actual sewing/non-sewing part of the project, but can teach something along with it such as different shapes when making necklaces. Then afterwards we could always read one of the books that she recommends (most of the books are geared toward younger children). Super awesome!

This sewing book is truly a gem in helping teach children basic sewing as well as getting their creativity woven in and bonding time with them! Highly recommend to sewing lovers who want crafts to bring the entire family together!

Really adorable book 17 Jun. 2014
By OceanDreamer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
It's summer. Kids have hours on end to occupy. And moms may need a little inspiration to keep them entertained. Look no further. Just choose what you feel in the mood for. Do you want to make cozy and completely personalized slippers? How about a one of a kind 'around the world' map? Want to play house? You can spend the day making doll house pillows or a plaid a-frame tent. Feeling hungry? Why not make an entire spread of fabric foods, and the dishes to accompany it!? And if that's not enough, there are necklaces, hide-a-pockets, bows, garlands, and so much more. So step inside and let your imagination soar!

I think this book is reallllly cute! The projects are absolutely adorable. And there are projects for boys and girls alike . I think it's great how simple the ideas are, in that an experienced seamstress could turn these into amazing, and the beginner could feel undaunted enough to give them a try. I think the adult assisting will enjoy this as much as the child! I can't wait to get started on some of these ideas.
I received this book free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
