Product Description

Product Description

Life in Africa is never dull. It can be tough, it can be funny, it can be poignant, but it is never ever dull. Let's Make A Plan is a heart-warming book of true anecdotes experienced during daily life in Zimbabwe. It tells of a family's tears and frustrations, laughter and hope in conditions that were often ruthless and horrific. The only way to cope and to try to lead relatively normal lives in what were often truly bizarre circumstances or when things went pear-shaped was to MAKE A PLAN.

I bought this book because I was born and raised in Rhodesia and went to school with a member of the Craster family. The content is interesting and gives a good flavour of life under difficult circumstances post-independence. However, the author's has a wordy style, includes otiose asides, makes vocabulary and grammar errors, uses too many hackneyed phrases and that does the narrative do no favours. The author's direct "just do it" personality would have shone through just as effectively had a good editor taken a tough look at the manuscript and cut the book by 25%. A number of such memoirs are being published at the moment and this is not the best by any means

Format:Paperback
An easy read and true to the situation at the time but probably only for those who have lived in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe
