So far mostly unhearalded in the music press, The Singleman Affair have forged their own unique take on the psychedelic folk genre. The lo-fi recording approach provides a plaintive shimmer on this set of songs. The songs project feelings of plaintive loss a lot and delirious happiness occasionally - much like the feel of the best US west coast 60's psychedelia such as Jefferson Airplane circa Surrealistic Pillow era. I doubt if this atmosphere could have been conjured in an expensive studio.
There is also a touch of Nick Drake in the style of the songs although the voice bears no similarity to Drake's.
This is a good album for getting settled in with during the late Autumn / Winter nights and will reveal many hidden secrets on repeated plays.
