'Let's Get it On' is probably the finest 'concept album' of love and longing ever released.
The eight songs capture every mood one might experience (excluding perhaps the like that those with more 'unusual' tastes might enjoy) whilst involved in a romantic affair, from anticipation to delight to loss to despair and everything in between.
Everyone knows the title track is a steamy, grinding classic, but for me the album highlights are the exquisite 'Please Don't Stay' featuring some fantastic drumming, the wonderful harmonies of 'Come Get to This' and the superlative vocal of 'Distant Lover', the anguish and sorrow in Marvin's voice sending tingles down my spine every time.
One really can't do justice to such a beautiful recording like this. Believe me, if you like emotive, romantic, passionate music (in particular if you are currently all loved-up) you must listen to 'Let's Get it On'.
