Amazon.co.uk Review

The series formula started to kick in with this immediate sequel to Lethal Weapon, but that doesn't necessarily make it a weak movie. Joe Pesci joins the fold, Richard Donner directs again, and Mel Gibson and Danny Glover return as LAPD partners, their relationship smoother now that Gibson's character has recovered from his maddening grief over his wife's death. But the reckless Mel and cautious Danny equation, good for a million laughs, settles into place in this story involving a South African smuggler and a new girlfriend (Patsy Kensit) for Gibson. The movie is hardly comfy, though. The last act gets nasty, and a climactic fight between Gibson (who gets the worst of it) and some high-kicking villain is ugly. --Tom Keogh

In my humble opinion, the best of all four of the "Weapons". The characters are well established and the addition of Pesci is pure genius if not a little of a show stealer. A great piece of casting in Josh Ackland as the evil baddy and even Patsy Kensit looks gorgeous and believe me I am not one of her admirers. The action is fast paced, the storyline is good (only feeling dated due to the fall of Aparthied) and the performances from all involved are top notch. This is just one long non stop rollercoaster, especially the destroying of the house on stilts (yes that is a real house that they had to build to full regs due to local laws--just to destroy it!!). This was made for DVD, the explosions and sound effects just jump out at you thanks to the advances made in home sound technology. A bargain and a must for all Gibson/Glover fans.

This is the sequel to the popular 80s action classic Lethal weapon, Lethal weapon is a superior sequel with once again keeping up a cool story full of action and violence and over the top stunts and a few added twists to the characters stories, the cast once again is brilliant with the addition of a few new faces mainly Joe Pesci and the lovely young Patsy Kensit. This is a great sequel and a must for big fans of 80s action movies!

As much as Lethal Weapon may have stepped outside its genre trappings to strike an unexpected chord, its sequel was the film that gave the series the legs it needed to continue onward and upward.

While it still plumbs some dark, painful subject matter for its lead characters, Lethal Weapon 2 skews lighter by treating the Murtaugh-Riggs dynamic as the stuff of fruitful comedy, an approach intensified by the slightly annoying, but still faithfully endearing, Leo Getz character, whom Joe Pesci makes all his own.

But it's the supreme comfort of Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, with both each other and the script that rockets this to the top of buddy movies to such an extent that it became ripe for parody.

The director again proves his command of this material with a handful of memorable scenes, and especially his use of Gibson in his trademark "lethal weapon" scenes, which coined the franchise title. Even though Gibson is a lot less depressed in this film you still completely believe him as a guy that has nothing to lose.

Where as the first lethal weapon really successfully put the story of the franchise out there, It was still not quite hitting the mark for me, but here, there is the stuff that sequel dreams are made of.
