Product Description

Book 2 in the DI Matt Barnes Series.

DI Matt Barnes has recovered from serious injuries sustained in the line of duty. He is now in a relationship with Dr Beth Holder, a criminal psychologist who consulted on a case involving a homicidal sociopath.

Now, the thirteen year old daughter of Detective Superintendent Ray Preston has been abducted, and Matt and Beth once more pool resources in an attempt track down the unknown suspect, who they believe holds a grudge against Ray Preston, and has specifically targeted his daughter to get back at him.

The perpetrator has an agenda: a need to avenge a perceived travesty of justice. His lethal intent is to both psychologically and then physically destroy all those that he considers guilty for his own loss and subsequent sense of wretchedness.

Matt, his team on the Special Crimes Unit, and Beth are looking for someone that has covered his tracks and can adapt to stay ahead in what he considers to be the ultimate game. He is the police’s worst nightmare; an opponent who does not conform to any pattern, and who, when cornered, will turn on his pursuers, not run from them.

As the body count rises, Matt and Beth stalk the faceless killer, only to find that they themselves are being hunted by him.

More About the Author

I write the type of original, action-packed, violent crime thrillers that I know I would enjoy reading if they were written by such authors as: Lee Child, David Baldacci, Simon Kernick, Harlan Coben, Michael Billingham and their ilk.
Over twenty years in the Prison Service proved great research into the minds of criminals, and especially into the dark world that serial killers - of who I have met quite a few - frequent.

I live in a cottage a mile from the nearest main road in the Yorkshire Wolds, enjoy photography, the wildlife, and of course creating new characters to place in dilemmas that my mind dreams up.

What makes a good read? Believable protagonists that you care about, set in a story that stirs all of your emotions.

If you like your crime fiction fast-paced, then I believe that the books I have already uploaded on Amazon/Kindle will keep you turning the pages.

Following on from Michael Kerr's introduction of DI Matt Barnes (A Reason To Kill), he now faces a new nemesis, ( Paul the Perpetrator) who is without doubt a heavy duty, 24 carat, five star sociopath. If you have every wondered what goes through the minds of abducted people, read on (if you dare).
Lethal Intent is not for people of a nervous disposition or weak stomachs.
Matt Barnes and his girlfriend Beth must think they are continually running through treacle with this perp, he just doesn't know when to stop.
I'd certainly recommend reading this, preferably after A Reason To Kill.
I'm looking forward to #3.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly Descriptive, Shocking and Believable 16 July 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I wondered if Michael Kerr would be able to keep up the momentum in his second outing with DI Matt Barnes and I don't know quite how he did it but it was equally, if not more edge of the seat stuff, than A Reason to Kill. Once again he not only manages to get into the character of his cop but also into the psyche of the bad guy and the heads of those he targets. His writing is so descriptive that I felt I could actually see the shocking story unfolding and while it was uncomfortable viewing I could not stop reading. We've all heard of deranged individuals who feel society has done them wrong, here it's like we have an inside story of how one such man set about his revenge. It's scarily believable. Once again there were more twists and turns than a switchback and equally horrific but compulsive. I'll not give away too much more of the plot but having started a romance with criminal psychologist Dr Beth Holder, in the first book, I was pleased to see their relationship flourishing but after a couple of narrow escapes through association I think I'd be rather wary of my future with such a driven man in a front-line job such as Matt's. I can't wait to get started on A Need to Kill for more thrills, excellent writing and to see if Beth is a stronger woman than I think I am. This series is a must for lovers of detective stories with the added bonus of while knowing whodunit there's many elements of surprise and fear while tracking down their man.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lethal Intent 12 Mar. 2014

Couldn't put it down. Not for the faint hearted, a bit
gory in places but I enjoyed it just the same. This is the second DI Matt Barns
and I'm now reading the third. Hope Michael Kerr doesn't make the mistake of trying to keep
this storyline running too long and make them too much same, same.

Lots of close up gruesome detail... if only you could read with your eyes closed. Worth staying with it though, as Michael Kerr is a good story teller.

Another enjoyable two days of reading, although had to close my eyes a couple of times, doesn't quite work the same as looking away at a TV screen and putting your fingers in your ears!!!!!

If fast pace crime thrillers are what you like then this is another Michael Kerr book you should read. I read the first of the serialised books about DI Matt Barnes as a part of an Amazon download of 20 books at a special rate. Having read the first I looked immediately for more Michael Kerr and found the series. This was the second and kept me page turning as much as the first. I am now on the third and have abandoned all other books until I have finished this one. The pace is excellent, the use of descriptive language vivid, the suspense thrilling whilst those of a faint heart should be aware of the horrific detail within its pages. Whilst it is in the genre of many such books, I do feel Michael Kerr is a leading exponent of the art. I had never before heard of him and I don't know why but I am glad I now have. Give it a go, I think you will enjoy it.
