Let The Tribe Increase includes the full album, both tracks from the Mirror Breaks 7" and a previously unheard demo version of Stay, all professionally remastered. Packaged in a 12-page booklet it contains a band history and the events that surrounded the recording of the album by Kill Your Pet Puppy fanzine editor Alistair Livingston.
About the Artist
In many ways The Mob were the archetypal anarcho punk band. Formed in Yeovil, Somerset in 1979 the band soon spent their time permanently on the road in a convoy of trucks before squatting in Brougham Road, Hackney - a street of houses that accommodated many punk and counter-culture types. Until their demise in 1983 they remained an integral part and a huge influence on the anarcho, traveller and free festival scenes. <P>Their first release was the 1980 Crying Again single on their own All The Madmen label, followed later that year by the Ching cassette. 1981 saw another single the hugely popular and haunting Witch Hunt soon followed by their now legendary Crass single No Doves Fly Here, both taking anarcho punk into new musically unchartered waters. <P>1983 saw the release of their now legendary album Let The Tribe Increase, an album that saw them moving away from the constraints of the punk sound as they continued to push the musical boundaries. This trend continued in their epic single The Mirror Breaks. <P>The Mob's invlovement with the counterculture saw them playing gigs with archetypal hippies Here & Now and Androids of Mu as well as being actively involved in the Persons Unknown and Centro Iberico anarchist centres and the Black Sheep Housing Co-operative. <P>Eventually The Mob dissolved with Joseph Porter joining Zounds before founding Blyth Power.

I've had this sinse it was realeased...how many years ago? I still find the lyrics just as relevant as they were at the time and musicaly it's an incredible work. There's such sincerity in this album it makes me shiver. It's a real shame they departed so early but i suppose this album covers just about everything and there's no point in banging on about the same old things unless your just out to cash in on it - which i don't think the Mob were about.
Along with a handfull of other anarcho-punk bands (zounds, crass, subhumans, rudimentry peni) it's one i have to have. Without it there'd be a big hole in that end of my music collection. I don't know whether to congratulate the Mob or thank them for this album.

I recently replaced my old vinyl record with the CD of "Let the Tribe Increase" and listened to it in the car on the way to work. It moved me in a way few albums do, or have ever done. Highly political, highly social yet very subtle (a major difference from similar bands who would scream their Anarcho Politics at you)the lyrics in places are beautiful and the melodies memorable.
This album needs to be listened to by everyone, it is very uplifting and positive in ways few bands of this genre were able to achieve (subhumans / zounds are two exceptions)
I arrived at work and had to let the cd finish (and to wipe away a tear) before i got out of the car.

Format:Audio CD
Quite simply the best in anarcho punk, in my view. I always loved the Mob more than any other band from the 80s. This lp/cd features all their best tracks, with thought provoking lyrix, and is a must have. I remember in the 80s being a crusty hippy punk and this album got me through some tough times, and was my favourite lp of that time, it is simply brilliant. I also still have their demo tape called CHING which was recorded in a basic studio (probably 8 track), it has most the same tracks but is more grungy. What more can i say if you like(d) Crass, Flux of Pink Indians, The SubHumans, The Apostles, Lost Cherrees, etc then this is a very good addition. Also if you like a much more hardcore sound i recommend AntiSect lp In Darkness there is no Choice, they were a heavy influence on many punk, and metal bands that followed on afterwards, and of course i have to mention Rudimentary Peni who have several great lps available (look on amazon).
