I bought this LP when it was first released on vinyl, around twenty years ago, and wanted to share my experiences despite not purchasing from Amazon (it was a mere pixel in the IT man's eye back then!). Norman Cook's first alias after splitting from The Housemartins was Beats International, and off the back of the brilliant re-working of The SOS Band's 'Just be good to me', this album was a big hit.
It takes a few listens to really get it - chock-full of (at the time) fashionable samples and World music beats; Cook was years ahead of Damon Albarn and co. it can seem trite and simplistic, however the tunes are all infectious and memorable, each with its own hook, and each original, with a range of guest vocalists bringing Cook's tunes to life.
Quirky, upbeat and robust, this album just gets better with age.

1st heard parts of this album in different album/mix whatever as a rebelious teenager sat at the local playing field and loved it. I have since bought this album on cassette and on first listen hated it to the point that i put a friend off of purchasing it. Years later i gave it a second chance and glad i did because WOW it's such an up album, find my right foot gets a little too happy whilst driving, i have since bought it on cd, totally agree with other review that notes the african influences and am writing this review after spending some time listening to neglected old great albums and this spring / summer's anthem is going to be beats international old skool.Hope i don't earn any points lol.
This album as i write is silly cheap money, read the other reviews, but ultimately give it a go

I had this on tape and played it over and again in my car. I now have a cd player in the car so got this to listen to again. I really liked it at the time, and on first listen again I think it will get played a lot! Dub be good to me brings back memories of working in a bar with some good friendships made and good times had. *whistful sigh*!
