When the licentious Anthony Dalton inherits the care of his thirteen-year old niece and the family estate upon the death of his older brother and sister-in-law, he must forsake his wild ways - especially once his wicked aunt and uncle apply for custody of the young girl. To prove to the Chancery Court that he is a respectable guardian, Anthony wants to enrol Jocelyn into the prestigious Charlotte Harris School for Young Ladies. Mrs Harris is reluctant to let the former rakehell's niece attend her fine school, until teacher Madeline Prescott convinces her that Anthony could be an asset, giving the heiresses lessons on how to recognize the devious techniques of rakes and rogues. Madeline has an ulterior motive for helping Anthony, but as they spend more time together, passion grows between them. Will their steamy affair withstand the obstacles to true love?

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun romp.. 28 Mar 2008
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Romances readers are going to love this book. Ms Jefferies takes the "classic rake" and makes him a hero to die for. In order to get his niece away from his demented family's control, he has to convince a bluestocking teacher that he is what is best for his niece. To that end, he has to teach her young charges at the all girl's school "rake lessons" but it is the teacher who gets a lesson that will change her life and she forces him to realize that he needs her for more than a reference.

These protagonists are typical for romances, but Ms Jefferies adds some unique humorous twists that the seasoned romance reader is going to savor. The story is fast paced, a wonderful blend of action and narrative with a surprise twist at the ending. Ms Jefferies doesn't disappoint. If the reader wants to escape for a few hours of reading enjoyment then this is a must read, they won't be disappointed

5.0 out of 5 stars Engaging and exciting historical romance 30 Jun 2008

Madeline Prescott is determined that her new teaching role at Mrs Harris's School for Young Ladies will help repair her father's tarnished reputation. But that is until the devilishly handsome Anthony Dalton, Viscount Norcourt tries to enrol his niece at the school.

With a reputation as a rakehell, there is only one way to ensure that the Viscount is truly willing to change his ways - get him to give "rake lessons" to the pupils to teach them how to avoid the advances of unscrupulous gentlemen.

Madeline has always believed attraction is a scientific matter but there is nothing scientific about the way Anthony makes her feel. And as the pair are brought together, first to help the pupils and then to help Madeline's father - Madeline knows she is playing with fire. For there is nothing more dangerous than a rake. Even more so when he is trying so hard to behave himself!

This book is the fourth in Jeffries' School For Heiresses series (after Never Seduce A Scoundrel, Only a Duke Will Do and Beware a Scot's Revenge) and is a fantastic addition to the series. Despite that, it also stands alone quite nicely so there is no real need to have read the other books before reading this one.

Both Madeline and Anthony are stand out characters that really make this book. Madeline is intelligent, passionate and every thing she does is for a reason - there are certainly no stupid heroines in a Sabrina Jeffries novel. Anthony is the kind of character that you just love to read about.

I loved this book ! Anthony is just gorgeous and I loved the very funny moments with him and Madeline. Not a typical storyline either and that made all the difference. I'll definately be reading this one again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incurrable Curiosity vs the Insatiable Rake 5 Jun 2009
By Book Gannet TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
When the notorious Anthony Dalton, the new Viscount Norcourt, agrees to give Rakehell lessons at Mrs Harris' School for Heiresses in exchange for enrolling his niece, he promises to be on his best behaviour around the girls. Sadly for teacher Madeline Prescott that doesn't include her. When she demands a favour as payment for her support with Mrs Harris, Anthony can't help wanting to know more.

For Madeline has secrets, but then so does Anthony, and as their encounters get hotter, both of them run the risk of revealing everything. Including their hearts.

At last, a `School for Heiresses' book (Never Seduce A Scoundrel,Only a Duke Will Do,The School for Heiresses anthology, and Beware a Scot's Revenge) which actually takes place in the school. Madeline is a delightful heroine - intelligent and funny, not to mention ferociously loyal - whose strictly scientific outlook on life utterly captivates Anthony - a man who has dedicated his life to the pursuit of immorality. Their exchanges are filled with humour as she constantly surprises him, while he strives to prove that real life is far better than cold, practical science.

Once more Jeffries surrounds her characters with fascinating research - nitrous oxide, and its uses both medical and recreational - adding fresh dimensions to the historical world she's created.
