the best morrissey single yet,
By
This review is from: Let Me Kiss You [CD 1] (Audio CD)
Most people who have heard this track agree the this is certainly Morrissey's best single yet - a definate number one in the Uk charts. A haunting text and a melody that surprises and delights will charm fans and casual listeners alike. This is the best!

Great A Side - not so good B Side...,

This review is from: Let Me Kiss You [CD 1] (Audio CD)
While not an obvious single choice Let Me Kiss You is one of my favourite tracks from the unspectacular You Are the Quarry, a very Smiths-sounding restrained piece, and all the better for it.The B-Side Don't Make Fun of Daddy's Voice will already be familiar to most fans due to both a John Peel Radio 1 session version, and it's near-permanence on Morrissey's 2004 live set-list. When I first heard the Peel version many months ago I thought this was possibly the worst song Morrissey has ever recorded - constant exposure has seen it grow on me a bit, and this version is well-produced, but that chorus is so tuneless it's plain embarrassing. Musically this is a good hard-edged rock song, closer to the sound of Southpaw Grammar than You Are The Quarry, but despite a pleasant Spanish outro for the most part the vocals just do not sit right with the music.

Morrissey's Re-emergence. How Amazingly Fantastic.,
By Damon Carr "Damon Wilder Carr" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Let Me Kiss You [CD 1] (Audio CD)
I am thrilled to see Morrissey back in the spotlight. As I feel myself getting older I now appreciate Morrissey's lyrics as I can more deeply connect with his literary references and influences, then when I was 14 in 1984 and it was the Smiths, not the solo artist I was a fan of. I can now connect with the obvious works of Oscar Wilde, the creative 'A Taste of Honey', and after living in London for two years I can connect with his 'Northern' ethos/pathos and his championing of the 'Northern' (UK) woman.
What more can I say that has not already been said? Morrissey is a love/hate artist. I have never met someone in the middle (they obviously exist but Stephen Patrick does not elicit lukewarm responses). Damon |
