This is a pleasing enough read. Tried and tested formula of tough/troubled hero with a mystery birth. Sent away by his mother at the age of 6, he was bought up by his uncle and aunt on a horse farm. Heroine is 20 and is the pretty daughter of a Duke. In her third season and desparate to marry, but only for love. Her father seeks the support of the ton's top matchmakers. However, the horse breeder hero has the reputation of being a "Cupid", as he has had some success in human matchmaking.

My reason for the 3 stars, is my irritation with the author for not doing her reasearch enough to realise that no-one from an arisoctatic family in that period would call or refer to his mother as "Mum". It grated on me. It would have either been the formal Mother, or Mama (pronounced mam-AH). Also, although the hero's mothers family are presumably gentry and are classed as a "good family", they are horse breeders. To be honest, I really can't see the top ton families welcoming a horse breeder who has many of them amongst his clients, into their balls etc. It just doesn't wash!

However, it was a nice enough read.

I got this book given to me as a gift and thought O no i'm going to have to read this thing. I thought it looked terribly old and honestly thought I would have no interest in it but from the word go I was completely enthralled. I am now on the hunt for more Johanna Lindsey books. It was so well written and I absolutely loved the plot and all of the characters. Amanda is hilarious and at times I found myself wishing I had lived back in the day to enjoy the experiences she had. this book is definitely in my top 5!! I have already recommended this to all of my girlfriends.

I have read ALL of Johanna Lindsey's books, and I don't know...this one just didn't resound with her writing style. Admittedly, her last few books have been very hit and miss with me, but I am one of her die hard fans that will continue buying her books because I am always hopeful that I will get Once A Princess, The Magic of You, Man of My Dreams or Savage Thunder. But after this book, I am not even sure whether this is still her or a ghost writer! The style was so unlike hers with exclamation marks at the most inconvenient places (I know! I am remarking about punctuation!) and the love scenes were awkward and stilted, almost as if this was the author's first book, and she was shy about writing them. Man of My Dreams author - SHY?!?!
The story itself was better than her last few books (hence the three stars), but at least those read like hers. Now I think she is simply putting her name on the cover. Sorry Johanna. :(

The book starts off slow - not the same speed as the actual Malory Family books but it does pick up as it goes along; there's the usual twists and turns - she's on her third "Marriage Mart" season so needs help in finding her man.
I enjoy Johanna Lindsay's books and this one will join the other 45 JL books.
