I've been wanting to try a Leslie Sansone walking workout for a long time, but this is the first opportunity I've had to order one of her DVDs that plays on a Region 2 DVD player.
At first I was sceptical that walking could be a good workout, but I've certainly been proved wrong. I put the DVD in, intending to do just one mile as a sample, but I enjoyed it so much I did all five miles! I was sweating and out of breath but I liked it so much I wanted to continue until the end.
I'm not super-fit but I consider myself to be "intermediate" when it comes to workout videos. Sometimes I think I've put myself off exercise in the past because I've gone for videos that are very high intensity and it can feel like punishment to do them. Whereas walking workouts are more do-able and if you do them consistently you will build up your fitness without having to force yourself to do something you don't want to do. I told my mother (who is in her 60s) about this DVD and she joined me for the first mile. She was really pleased with it because it's a form of exercise that she can do and she can take her time to build up the intensity. However, if you are new to exercise, I think it would be better to start with another one of Leslie's videos because the miles in this one are faster than the miles in some of her others.
Leslie is a wonderful instructor, really upbeat and happy. Her kindness and positivity seem to come through the TV screen. In this workout, each mile is about 12 minutes long and they include 2 minutes of "boosted walking" (gentle jogging), although you can power-walk instead of jogging if you want. Leslie does the first and last miles by herself and has a small group of walkers with her for the other three miles. I liked the variation of having different people in each mile. I'm really excited about making indoor walking a part of my regular exercise routine and getting other DVDs in the range.
