5.0 out of 5 stars Better the second time! 10 Jan 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I recently reread this and found myself liking it a lot more the second time. Having seen Les Mis on the West End, it's easy to forget how the story develops and I particularly enjoyed learning more about the Cosette character, who features heavily in the novel and not so in the musical. If you've never read Victor Hugo, it's worth downloading this from Kindle and giving it a try. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Les Miserables is the best book I've read yet. 12 Nov 2003
Format:Hardcover
Unlike most people, I didn't actually see the musical before I decided to read the book. I listened to the recording of it. Then I had to raise money for a school trip, and mum said she'd pay me £5 if I read Les Miserables. So ... I thought oh no, this is going to be long, boring and difficult. Well, it was long. And in some places difficult. But definetly definetly definetly not boring. It's such an amazing book that after I read it I thought I might as well not bother reading anything else, because nothing would ever top it. And there's no excuse for how old you are either, cos I'm just 13!

5.0 out of 5 stars Complete and Unabridged 4 Jan 2011
By M. Dowden HALL OF FAME TOP 50 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is 'Les Mis' in all its full glory. The translation is by Isabel F Hopgood, and there is an active table of contents. On its first publication it has to be admitted that this particular book wasn't that popular with the critics, but was immensely popular with the reading public, it was already being translated throughout Europe by the end of the year.

It is highly unlikely that you are not aware of the basic story as it has been filmed many times, is a musical and in other formats. You may have read the abridged version before, which personally I hate, but if you have never read the complete version before I should warn you that this isn't perfect. The story does get bogged down at times with things that are not germane to the main plot line. However this is still a book that is very well worth reading and I am glad that I now have it on my kindle. I won't have to go out and buy any more editions when my latest copy falls to bits, and also as it is a very large book it is nice to have it in just a file format.

5.0 out of 5 stars Les Mis
Not an easy read but worth the effort. Full of historical facts...enlightening of the trials of the past by the ordinary populace of France and Europe in general.

5.0 out of 5 stars Les Miserables
A great book, easy to read text on the kindle, the book can be a little hard going as it looses a little in translation. For people over 14 in my opinion.
