Well - I cannot boast to be a die-hard Jarre fan, or a specialist on electronic music (although I could specialize only in this genre!) but not to have this album if you like electronic music, or particularly Mr Jarre's output is like having a car with no wheels. I've been living years under a rock not knowing this superb album. But I was always aware that it is a live masterpiece. This album really sounds live. It has a wonderful atmosphere, rich arrangements, a few new tracks (my favourite is Arpegiator, but the Chinese folk music-tinged pieces are also enthralling).
This album was released as a double album, and, most recently, as a single CD, with some of the audience noise cut to make the whole programme fit on one CD. I chose the two CD edition, and it sounds very well.
The first CD has a very live and fascinating version of Equinoxe VII. It also has the magnificent, Tangerine Dream-like Arpegiator and the equally-pleasing live version of Equinoxe VI amongst other. The second CD is mostly extracts from his latest work at the time, Les Chants Magnetiques plus few new songs, Orient Express being probably the best known. The second CD also ends with a Jarre classic: Souvenir de Chine. A must have!
