This is the story of how Leonardo takes on a wild street boy who steals an invention, and the consequences. Really exciting story, plus gives a real feel for what it might have been like in Leonardo's studio. As always, Anholt is educational too - real pages from L's notebooks, plus notes on the story to show what bits are factual. My 4 year old loves this and so do I.

We have a few of Laurence Anholt's books about artists as my daughter (3 1/2) and I both really enjoy them. This one is slighlty different because Leonardo was an inventor as well. It features the Mona Lisa and tells how Leonardo hired acrobats to keep her entertained while she was sitting and shows how he wrote backwards in his notebooks, but the main story is about his attempts to invent a flying machine. It's so hard for children to get the concept that all the modern things around us haven't always been invented, I think this book comes as close to helping you explain this as any possibly could. I certainly heard my daughters brain ticking as she thought about it. Plus it's just a really enjoyable story with quite an exciting bit when Zoro takes a risky test flight!
I have also bought this as a Christmas Present for a 6 year old boy as I think he will enjoy it too.

I love this series of books. It's a good way to introduce the work of famous artists to young children.
