5.0 out of 5 stars Problem Solved, 5 Jan 2005
By
Mr. Ian P. Kirk "ianlondon36" (London UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: DVD Lens Cleaner with Audio & Set-up Modes (PS2/Xbox) (Video Game)
I bought my PlayStation 2 soon after the console was originally launched, so it's pretty old by now. For some time I have been having problems with games not loading, and when I tried to use the PlayStation's 'browse' option I got a "Disc Read Error", which usually means the lens in the PS2 is dirty.

A lot of websites tell you to take the PlayStation 2 apart and clean the lens directly yourself. Before trying that approach and risking the whole machine I thought I'd give this product a go. It works. I used it once and now all my games load first time - even the old ones that are blue instead of silver.

I think the purchase price makes this product worth a try before you send your PS2 back to Sony or get the screwdrivers out yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT!! I can watch all my DVDs again!!!, 1 May 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: DVD Lens Cleaner with Audio & Set-up Modes (PS2/Xbox) (Video Game)
My Playstation 2 went wrong and I kept
getting disk read error messages when
useing DVDs.
I looked on a couple of websites for help
and got mixed feedback, some say that lens
cleaners can ruin the inside of the PS2
and some say that they are a wonder cure.
Well all I can say is that since I have used this
cleaner I have had no more problems with
DVDs!.
If you are haveing trouble with DVDs get this
lens cleaner and say good bye to disk read error messages!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Worked perfectly - but user interaction is very eccentric!, 7 Dec 2003
This review is from: DVD Lens Cleaner with Audio & Set-up Modes (PS2/Xbox) (Video Game)
I used this on my PS2, which was playing up so badly that I was rapidly losing the ability to play DVDs on it, or play several of the games that I have. It would have failed completely before Christmas - unthinkable disaster or what.

At the end of the process, the PS2 was like its old self - everything - that's everything - worked perfectly.

The events leading up to its eventual triump were very bewildering, however. No manual of any kind. All that you have is something on the box that says to follow the on screen instructions. The first "instruction" is a graphic showing a picture of the cleaning DVD being placed in the machine, which is something that you must have mastered otherwise you wouldn't be watching the display!! Then you're given the choice of testing the sound or testing the video. The second of these is a particular lengthy process that I estimate took 10-15 minutes (a long time when all you want to see is something about the lens being cleaned, and wondering whether you've been conned).

By the end of it all, nothing had mentioned a lens of any kind, or cleaning or anything else representing the purpose for which one would buy the product. However, the lens had been cleaned. If you think about it, the only mechanism in the DVD player is something that turns the disk round - there's not "let's wiggle the disk about a bit because I've been told to wipe the lens". The difference on this disk is that there are cute little brushes on the underside that must stick out far enough to wipe the lens - and as long as the disk is turning the brushes will do the rest.

I can't speak for normal DVD players or the XBox. But on my PS2 it was my hero. I love it and want to have its babies.
