It's a budget entry level Lenovo machine. It's not a mid / top range Thinkpad. Put any thought of that out of your head. Put any thought of a "Lifestyle" product out too. It's not a gaming machine either, or a graphics workstation. It is what it is and aimed at entry to mid level computing.
You get a 3rd generation Ivy Bridge chip (Core i3 3110M) which is a 10 - 12% clock to clock cpu performance improvement over the previous Sandy Bridge equivalent. The bigger bonus is on the integrated graphics side, it gets a 40 - 50% performance improvement (HD4000) from the older Sandy Bridge HD3000.
As of now, writing this, most comparable priced laptops at this price point (< £300 - £330) are shipping (getting rid of) older Sandy Bridge chips with HD3000 graphics. So this Core i3-3110M Ivy Bridge with HD4000 laptop gets the nod over any of those for me. Same for the AMD E series chips that laptops at this price point seem to be using, although if you want energy efficient, low power options things will be different.
Laptop build is reasonable, weight not an issue if you weigh over 50 pounds and have opposable thumbs. Looks are subjective, but utilitarian seems to fit the bill. I don't mind the way it looks personally, it looks understated with a black / carbon faux brushed metal look. Keyboard could be better but it works and like most Lenovo laptop products, most stuff is replaceable if you know what you're doing. Viewing angle is sensitive which is a minus but once you know your working position it's a decent quality screen and the HD4000 graphics do better than anticipated.Read more ›
Honestly the best laptop in my opinion for the price while it lasts if you are looking for looks, performance and something slimline that's good battery life for on the go.
Also for anyone buying one you should disable bluetooth to save battery and also my battery performance will be better than stock due to the removal of most of the constantly running lenovo apps that are not needed.
also there is a free upgrade to windows 8.1 in the store which i would suggest getting.
However I would not recommend buying this laptop. I purchased it at the end of 2013 but my wifi kept dropping or there was limited connection. I sent it back and Amazon replaced it. I had the same issues so sent it off to medion (Lenovos repair centre in Germany). They advised the issue was the wireless card and were going to replace that component. After 2 weeks they still hadn't and their admin team kept giving me false information. So now I'm waiting for them to return it to me and I can send on to Amazon who will hopefully refund me. Lenovo are rubbish. This is a well known issue so why it's not been resolved I don't know.
This is a good entry level laptop for the price and was bought for a basic computer user. It was intended simply to be used for online shopping, word processing and emails. For this use it is perfect. It includes the last generation, 3rd Generation of Intel CPUs, an i3 in this case, more than enough for basic use and very light media use..
'While I realise that many people do not get on with Windows 8 or 8.1, there is only a small learning curve and it can easily be overcome. Windows 8/8.1 is a good operating system and more people need to give it a chance. The impact of the new style start menu is minimal, but when used correctly, allows for a much more efficient way of opening programs, searching files and using one's computer in general.' -
The laptop is thin and well built. It is significantly slimmer and lighter than the aforementioned product and would be a lot more suited to those on the move. It's durable and has withstood a little rough treatment from the family pets who clearly don't know not to sit on computers that are left on sofas. I would still recommend a case for regular travel, however, and the clumsiest of people might prefer to look for a more durable, sturdier machine.Read more ›

Very good performance wise and good value for money with the Core i3 processor. My only fault would be the battery life from a full charge which should be better.Published 10 months ago by Terry Diver
