Audio: Spanish - Subtitles: English, Spanish. Butterfly's Tongues is a heartwarming tale about a young boy growing up in a small Spanish town. Moncho is timid and fearful as he starts school for the first time. But with the nurturing guidance of his kind and devoted teacher, Don Gregorio, a world of possibilities begins to open up for young Moncho. As the school year comes to a close, however, civil war begins sweeping across the country, forcing the boy's family and community to choose between the fight for freedom and the threat of persecution.

4.0 out of 5 stars the shattering of childhood innocence 7 Jun 2011
By Juanita
Format:DVD
a delightful if enlightening film set in early 1936 in Northern Spain, where a young boy, suffering from asthma, finally starts school at the age of 8. Gradually he comes to terms with the boisterousness of his class mates, gets a child's first idea of what grown up love might be, whilst at the same time coming to terms with the changes in society and politics which affect his family and friends relationships.

Moncho - the diminutive of Ramon - grows to trust, enjoy and absorb the wise gentle teaching of his school master, but as spring changes into summer he realises that life is not always pleasant and that both his father and his teacher could be threatened by the advance of the military regime in pre-Civil War Spain. 18th July 1936 was to be a significant date for all Spaniards.
