Excellent travel adventure story & introduction to peoples, animals & environments in Madagascar. If you're thinking about going on an expedition to somewhere like Madagascar and fancy a dry-run in an armchair first, this is your book.

This fascinating book took me back 40 years to my own expedition days in Mato Grosso so I was able to empathise with all the problems of running a basecamp! In addition, very much more recently, I visited Madagascar and went to some of the places described in this book. For me, a very nostalgic read but for anyone interested in lemurs, it is a must!

A wonderful book to get under the skin of life and nature in Madagascar. Read it before a trip to whet your appetite and while you're there for the pleasure of recognising the places and creatures that Jane describes in vivid detail. Jane shares a deep understanding of the culture, fauna and flora of Madagascar, as well as an intriguing insight into the pleasures (and hardships) of life on expedition.
