The latest offering from Thomas Newman accompanies the big Xmas cinema hit Lemony Snicket. If you are already a fan of Mr Newmans work you can't help but be delighted by this. Consisting of 29 tracks the album has a content similar in feel to Finding Nemo but establishes its own identity and personality.
The album creates a beautiful picture of a strange and mysterious place where the unexpected can happen and the strange is never far away.
From the haunting opening track 'Bad beginning' the journey takes you to far away places 'Curdled Cave', introduces strange sights 'Lachrymose Ferry', gives you hope 'Concerning Aunt Josephine', and warns of the dangers to come 'Cold as Ike'.
If you like anything Thomas Newman has done before I urge you to give this a try. If you haven't then you may well be in for a fortunate series of surprises.
I have yet to see the film and may not for some time, but I now know exactly what the world of Lemony Snicket looks like and I know it sounds just great!

I loved the music when I saw the film, and I still love it, especially the end track. Most of the music is a little on the sad side so I cannot recommend it to the overly depressed, unless they enjoy feeling a bit on the woeful side. The music perfectly matches the themes of the film ;it is ingenious and unusual, with the touches of humour to be found in the film. Seriously brilliant music.
