Format: Audio CD
"It's the end of the year and there isn't much cheer around here".

Enough already with the anti-festive mewling! There's enough doom and gloom without this sort of thing. I want a law passed whereby only people who have went through proper, accredited Christmas tragedies are allowed to mump at this time of year. And, no, having bf / gf troubles don't count. I'm talking death, maiming, loss of limbs. I've been there, so shut it.

Pet peeve over, it's a shame about said song, as this is a rather accomplished set of singer / songwritery stuff. Ms Wolfe doesn't have the most distinctive set of pipes in the world, but some interesting songs and arrangements lift the album into the realms of the very good.

The highlights are many, but include the oh so worthy 'Asylum' which relates the third party tale of a mother and her kids moving into a small English community, and the oh so middle class tale of a young couple flitting to rural France in 'La Ranche en Hiver'.

There is more than enough here to keep a battalion of Guardian readers very happy happy indeed. So buy it for the geography teacher in your life.
