Product Description

Leifheit Linomatic 400 deluxe: the best Linomatic of all time

The Linomatic 400 deluxe offers the next generation of rotary clothes line design: easy-pull cord opening; press button to close, and clean, dry tangle-free lines thanks to the Leifheit line retraction mechanism.

Easy opening

Opening the rotary is made as easy as possible with the easy lift mechanism. Simply pull the red toggle on the end of the lifting line and walk backwards. The arms open and the lines extend. When fully up and tensioned the arms automatically lock in this position. Letting go of the lifting line allows it to retract tidily into the central pole. This keeps it out of the way: no one can trip over it, and if mowing adjacent to the rotary, the pull cord line will not become caught in the mower.

Simple to close

Closing the arms is also simple. The release button is on an arm at eye level, so no bending and ducking under the arms to reach some release on the centre pole. The arm release requires just a gentle finger press. As the arms lower on their own the lines gently retract keeping them clean and tidy for future use. Unlike conventional rotaries, there is no need to wipe the lines to ensure no line marks on the laundry.

More practical

The Linomatic features extra long arms to help spread the washing. On each carrying arm are two hooks to dry eight shirts and blouses on coat hangers, free from folds. The tough, 40 m long lines can take up to 6 loads of washing. The maximum outer line length is 1.86 m. Even large laundry, like bed linen and tablecloths has sufficient space.

Made to last

The Linomatic is made in Germany and carries a 3 year guarantee. All used materials are weatherproof and UV-resistant. A ground socket is supplied with the Linomatic which requires concreting in to the garden. Alternatively, an optional, easy-to-use, screw-in socket may be purchased from Amazon ASIN: B000NZH3WU.

Made from aluminium:

Strong all-aluminium construction is used on the Linomatic Deluxe. The key benefit is no danger of rust spots on clothes. Galvanised or painted rotaries will eventually become scratched and will rust in places. Rust marks on clothes are notoriously difficult to shift. Aluminium construction also makes the Linomatic DL much lighter for carrying in and out of storage.

I love this drier. It has a neat pull cord system so you can fold it away quickly & easily - without bashing your head on it. It is much bigger than my previous drier so you might want to check out the measurements before buying. lightweight aluminium so when the wind catches it, it spins round at a fair pace.
Only thing to remember is that it does not come with a spike so you will need to get one if you do not have a rotary drier already.
Really nice item. Easy to use. High quality materials. Nice gizmo pull-cord. Love it !

In December 2012 I initially gave this a glowing review and five stars - but after 11 months use it is now failing. The lines have stretched and the locking and release mechanisms no longer work properly. I have closely followed the manufacturer's care and maintenance instructions but this hasn't helped. The main problem is that the plastic parts on the release mechanism have become worn and now jam, What originally appeared to be a good design hasn't stood the test of time. I tried contacting the manufacturer in Germany for some advice but they were unhelpful, I will be looking for a replacement/refund via Amazon probably a different make.

This has several benefits over our 14-year-old John Lewis own-brand dryer although I should add that the latter still looks near-new, with no signs of rust or damage.

Both dryers are lightweight aluminium but the Leifheit is easier to erect and fold away, with its pull-cord system, and does a really neat job of folding the lines into the arms, when not in use. In addition, the Leifheit has longer arms and so does a better job of separating the washing, making the line more usable. The JLP has 50m line vs. the 40m of the Leifheit and yet is slightly smaller across the arms, so the extra 10m are of little value because the lines are close together and never all get used.

No socket is supplied with either of them but that's fine with me and seems sensible - many people already have a socket and would object to paying a hidden cost for a new one they didn't need. They are widely available on Amazon and elsewhere. Ours (stainless steel) screws into the lawn and hasn't budged over the years. It is a 50mm socket - perfect for the Leifheit - and has an insert to take it down to 45mm for the JLP (new JLP dryers seem to be 50mm though).

Whether it's worth paying a higher price for the benefits of the Leifheit over the JLP is debatable. Over 14 years, the extra is pretty insignificant and I think you'll be glad you paid it, but I've still docked one star for the high price.

This product did not disappoint when removed from the packaging. very well made item and light to handle due to its aluminium construction. Very easy to raise with the cord raising system with the cord retracting back into the pole when in raised position.
The button mounted on one of the arms makes lowering very easy.
