4.0 out of 5 stars Necessary option. 24 April 2010

For my style of photography, the X1 as sold is incomplete. Compared to the M series, the X1 is a small camera and the handgrip does really help -- but I should add that I have always used a handgrip on my M6. An even more important accessory for the X1 is a viewfinder, which Leica sells at an overpriced $350 -- if you can find one! Solution is to get the 35mm viewfinder from Voigtlander which costs about $160 and does a very good job and it is available. I'm using the Voigtlander finder without any problems. Of course, I was one of the lucky one who has been able to obtain a X1.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful accessory 29 Dec 2010

The X1 by itself is a rather lightweight camera which might have a tendency to bounce about as it's being carried on the neckstrap. This grip, in addition to offering a secure hold on the camera body adds some weight which I find makes the camera more substantial and less likely to bob about.

I was not sure if the grip was needed for the X1 being you can hold it quite well without it but I had rewards point to spend so I took the bait.It did help to secure a better grip and that's about all its job was for. The only fault is it covers the batt/card door when attached to the camera.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pricey, but good 29 Dec 2012

Nice accessory for the X1 when you're in conditions that require a firmer grip on the camera. I don't use it all the time because it does add bulk, which works against the chief advantage of the X1, its small size.

One minor annoyance is that the grip must be removed to change the camera battery or SD card. Otherwise I'd give it 5 stars.
