Product Description

LEGWORK is the debut novel in Katy Munger's hilarious and acclaimed Casey Jones Mystery series. Casey is a big, bad bottled blonde who takes no prisoners as she delves into cases for those who are marginalized on the outskirts of society. Set in North Carolina and the surrounding states, LEGWORK features a colorful cast, solid plot and writing that is both laugh out funny and vry moving at times.

From the Author

Let's all lighten up a little, shall we?
Legwork introduces Casey Jones, an aggressive, smart ass female detective from the deep South. Yes, there are lots of "assertive" female protagonists hitting the book stores these days, but most of them leave me scatching my head and thinking "That's assertive? I'll show you assertive!". Which, ahem, I believe Casey does. My goal in writing the Casey Jones books is to provide a very funny, entertaining read without sacrificing a good mystery and while geting in a few good licks at the more pompous among us. I'll let you decide if I succeeded. I try to avoid Southern cliches in my books and give you a realistic peek at the modern South and the motley crew that now occupies it. Legwork has gotten great reviews which, for some mysterious reason, do not appear on this website. And on that note, all the talk about bad language and references to sex in the book is an exaggeration, I'm far more foul in person. Drop me an e-mail when you're done and keep an eye out for "Out Of Time", due in August of 1998 from Avon Books. -Katy Munger

A northerner and newcomer to the south this book was a hilarious introduction to some class culture in my new home. The heroine is sweaty, saucy, and steely; a bright woman of a certain age and disposition who, after some hard knocks falls into a life for which she is particularly well suited. She is the legs, eyes, and brains for a mountain of slough with a P.I.'s license, (unattinable for her). I often found myself laughing out loud. It unfolds handily, murder, politics, passion. The author takes a nice chunky bite out of the hides of local developers and people for whom appearences are everything. One of my favorite scenes involves the garden club, our heroine, and chicken salad sandwiches. I look forward to the next offering in this series.

We finally have a female PI with savy and plenty of sass. Casey is a fantastic character to really get to know and so are her friends! It's got wit galore and a great read from beginning to end. Her characters are priceless along with her wonderful way with words. I've read them all and can't wait for number 4 next June! Way to go Katy!

Funny and engaging 21 Sep 2011

Don't be put off by the cheesy cover (really, who came up with that concept??? - it's very misleading.) This is a funny, feisty mystery with a likeable lead and lots of plot twists. Well written and nicely plotted, you'll enjoy the time you spend in Casey Jones' company. Oh, and do check out the other books in the series, too!

Hilarious!
As a southerner transplanted to the UK I struggle to find books to read that take place in the South. So I was delighted when I realized where the story was based. Read more

Was I reading the same book?
I failed to find humour in this book!! the story was OKish, the main character was a vulgar and aggressive (definitely NOT assertive) individual who seemed to obsess constantly... Read more

Not your typical heroine, but likeable
Quite a good crime novel. The main character is frumpy doesn't do fashion and lets her roots show, so not your typical heroine. Read more

Has funny moments
This book has its very funny (laugh out loud) moments. I felt the plot was overblown; and, sure, Casey is sassy and world-weary, but at times her cheerful cynicism grated on me. Read more
