Triple bill of dramas about life, love and relationships. In 'Legends of the Fall', US Cavalry officer Colonel William Ludlow (Anthony Hopkins) takes early retirement after despairing of the Government's treatment of the Western Tribes. In the remote foothills of the Montana Rockies he builds a ranch where he brings up his three sons. When the youngest son Samuel (Henry Thomas) returns from the city with beautiful fiancée Susannah (Julia Ormond), she attracts the admiration of Alfred and Tristan, his two brothers (Brad Pitt and Aidan Quinn). After one of their number is lost in the First World War, the surviving sons return home to rebuild their lives - and fight once more for Susannah's love. 'Steel Magnolias' is a female-bonding story adapted from the play by Robert Harling and based around the lives of six women who regularly get together in a Louisiana beauty parlour to discuss their lives and the men that invade them. Shelby (Julia Roberts) is the youngest of the group and despite suffering from severe diabetes, plans her wedding and then the birth of her first child like any other newly-wed. Ouiser (Shirley Maclaine) is a bitter divorcee, while Truvy (Dolly Parton) is the sexy, sassy hairdresser. 'Circle of Friends', based on a novel by Maeve Binchy, is set in 1950s Dublin. Benny (Minnie Driver) and Eve (Geraldine O'Rawe) set off from their hometown to attend college in Dublin. There they meet Nan (Saffron Burrows), who introduces them to Jack (Chris O'Donnell), the college heart-throb rugby star. Jack and Benny begin a passionate relationship, but an impulsive decision by Nan eventually changes the course of the relationship for good.
