Product Description

Western triple bill. 'Legend of the Lost' (1957), set in the Sahara Desert, sees John Wayne as Joe January, a hard-drinking guide who sets out to discover a lost treasure in North Africa, and along the way falls in love with Dita (Sophia Loren). In 'Barquero' (1970), a group of Mexican bandits, led by Jake Remy (Warren Oates), head for Lonely Dell in order to cross the Paria River. They leave a trail of death and destruction along the way, but when they arrive at Lonely Dell, they do not expect any resistance. The bargeman Travis (Lee van Cleef) has persuaded the townsfolk to abandon their homes and take refuge across the river, so that he can fight off the bandits himself. The arrogance of the bandits then leads to violent death at the hands of Travis. In 'Soldier Blue' (1970), which is based on the events of the 1864 Sand Creek Massacre, a naive cavalry officer (Peter Strauss) and a resourceful young woman (Candice Bergen) survive a Native American attack and have to make their way home through the wilderness. As they face the hardships of the journey, the couple fall in love, only to witness a horrific bloodbath as the U.S. Cavalry takes revenge upon their enemy, in a battle that became notorious for its brutality.

4.0 out of 5 stars 3 for 1?you cant complain!! 9 Oct 2013
Ive read everyone creating about John Waynes Legend of The Lost in this 3 dvd set.Moans and groans,do they realise it was made in 1957 and is NOT a western but a very slight desert adventure, lost gold and greed,It all works very well with crackin photography and Sophia Loren taboot.I think its Soldier Blue thats the bore of the set as ive seen this many times and never knew what all the fuss was about, well, the fuss is the violence at the beginning of the scalping scenes, then you have a on off friendship with the two leads of the movie, thats it,the hype?then Barcquero, others again moaning and droaning.Anything different and people just moan. This is a good set for the two everyone dislikes and not Soldier Blue thats always been an overrated movie.A crackin threesome to be had here anyways...

2.0 out of 5 stars Barquero would not play 31 July 2013

I ordered this collection for Soldier Blue, Barquero was a bonus, Legends of the Lost is very dated. The main problem was Barquero would not play on either my DVD player or my laptop. I returned the collection for a refund, but promptly re-ordered however I found the same fault, but at 3.26 it was worth it just for the Soldier Blue DVD, which has stood the test of time.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of Waynes best 31 May 2013

The main star of Legends of the Lost is the wind constantly swirling round the desert and the ruined city. It lends the film an added atmosphere of melancholy that matches the windswept score by Lavagnino . The film has an unmistakeable Italian production feel , accentuated by the performance of Loren in fine form. Beautifully shot, bathed in technicolour and with a fortune in lost treasure thrown in, what more can I say!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent movie and well worth the price 12 July 2014

Only bought this dvd box-set because it included the movie 'SOLDIER BLUE'. Excellent movie and well worth the price. Not watched the other two movies as yet. May do some rainy day when bored and nothing else to watch. Not really into cowboy movies but i remember watching 'SOLDIER BLUE' when it was first released in my local cinema. If you've never seen it, buy this box-set. You won't be disappointed and the best thing about it, its a true story.

2.0 out of 5 stars A "B" and two "C-" 24 Sep 2013

Soldier Blue has its moments, i.e. mildly enjoyable ones with decent acting, whereas Legends of the Lost and Barquero have none that I noticed. The latter two are are as bland as bland can be.
