I love Arabic music, and Um Koulthoum is legendary, so I thought I'd have to listen to some of her music. This is really old-fashioned and not in a good way. Not for me, really.

If you want to select some archetypal American folk music from early in it's seminal influence on the music that came after, you'd have to understand Bob Dylan, Joan Baez

This GREAT Egyptian anger is of that calaber---she is seminal.

I had the pleasure of seeing and hearing her perform very,very late one night in a fantastic, VERY OLD club outside of Cairo. WOW. Reminded me of seeing Celia Cruz in NY when she was at least 85!!!
