Book Description

Lana Prentis is 17 years old and has some unusual physical challenges: she has white hair, silver eyes, milky-white skin and webbed fingers and toes.
She lives on Safe Harbor Island off the Coast of North Carolina. Her father (Cole Prentis) is the lighthouse keeper and also the keeper of many secrets.
He told Lana her mother drowned when Lana was only three years old, and he never allows her in the water.
When Lana's P.E. Teacher (Miss Rose Perry) secretly gives Lana swimming lessons, it sets off a chain of events that leads Lana to discover the truth about herself and her mother.
Lana learns her true life's purpose, that her heritage is as rich and deep as the sea - and that her future lies beneath it.

Sheri L. Swift lives in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia with her husband and beagle (Talei). She blogs, enjoys writing poetry, and is an avid Pinner.

More About the Author

I love to create in the Fantasy realm. I originally wrote my story (LEGEND OF THE MER) when I was seventeen in my junior year of high school; in my creative writing class. After that, I say life happened and I went on to marry and have four daughters. When my baby finally entered College, I began to rewrite my story. Although I was raised a West Coast girl, my family and I moved to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia in 1995. We quickly fell in love with the East Coast and began vacationing there. After my daughters went on a Mission trip which included time on Ocracoke Island along the Outer Banks of North Carolina, I began to draw inspiration for my Safe Harbor Island, which was first written as a West Coast island. I believe Ocracoke's rich history inspired me to write a better story. Hope you continue the journey with the sequel (LEGEND OF THE MER II ~ The New Guardian). I'm currently writing the third in this series.

My latest book I've published is an Elven love story THE HART OF TELENDARIA. It was partly created in my mind as a child and then combined with a Pixie story I wrote between having babies at the age of 22. It was the first large manuscript I had ever written, but knew it would take a lot of effort to do it justice and didn't have the strength earlier to write it. I especially wanted to publish this one for my grandchildren to read one day and to share it with anyone needing a little adventure with love, perseverance, joy and hope. ;)

I'm a wife, mother and grandmother of eleven; they are the joy in my life. I believe in the power of prayer. I consider myself to be an inspirational writer and I enjoy writing poetry. I generally write Young Adult. I'm also a cancer survivor.

It was a brilliant captivating book which made it very hard to put down. Would read again and again, a magical adventure full of suspense magic and of course mermaids. Can't wait to buy the next one in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally fab 29 Dec. 2013
By Megan
Format:Kindle Edition
I've got to say this is the best 'mer' book I've read. At first, I disliked the use of 3rd person, but it actually worked perfectly for the rest of the book. It wasn't too 'American', and many parts were beautifully written. I loved the way different families grew. The only thing was the front cover-it was a bit 'modern'. However, it was utterly fab! Can't wait for the 2nd :)!

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved this book 27 Aug. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I loved this book. Usually these days books are so short. Writers like to put their books in sequals etc which in all fairness is great. But i feel like i am being cheated out of my money each time as they could of put 2 and some times 3 of their books into one. This book has not only surprised me a few times where i know many writers would of started another book. I not only enjoyed but loved this book, the characters the scenery everything was such a joy and pleasure too read. I will most definitely will be letting my daughters read this book. Thank you for such an enjoyable read.
