Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review:

In a nutshell:
Spyro the Dragon returns in a reboot to the series that finally explains his origins and aims to return him to the top flight of platforming gaming mascots.

The lowdown:
Alongside Crash Bandicoot the original Spyro the Dragon games were the PSone’s best two exclusive platformers, but just like Crash they’ve long lost their way. This might be called A New Beginning but it’s disarmingly similar to the last game and features precious little in the way of new ideas. Although he does sport a requisite pair of leathery wings, Spyro can’t actually fly, just glide for short periods, which allows the game to include lots of platforming sections. The real emphasis is on combat though, which is a bit of a shame as it quickly gets repetitive with few moves and little variety in enemies. It’s a competent enough game but it’s really got nothing new to add to either the Spyro series or action adventure games in general.

Most exciting moment:
The best part of the game is the way Spyro’s powers can slowly be upgraded, particularly his four flavoured dragon’s breath which switches between the elemental powers of fire, ice, wind and earth. Not only do many of the puzzles revolve around their use but some enemies are vulnerable to specific types.

Since you ask:
Oddly the game has quite the celebrity line-up in its voice cast, including Elijah Woods (The Lord of the Rings) and Gary Oldman (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban), but their talents are largely wasted on a bland script and trite dialogue.

The bottom line:
Not the revamp the series needed to regain its previous glories.-HARRISON DENT

Fun:
I purchased this eagerly awaited game on its day of release, looking forward to more of the little purple ones puzzles and challenges as well as meeting up with the usual cast of enemies and sidekicks.what a dissapointment, only things that have remained the same, is spyro`s still purple and sparx is still around.the rest is very different, this is a game of combat only, so, for all the previous spyro lovers expecting more of the same they will be in for a big dissapointment! the game doesn`t look as good as previous efforts, the scenery is kind of in soft focus and not as defined as previous games the usual search for eggs etc just doesnt happen.this game may appeal to the beat em up players and a new generation of spyro playing kids.i think fans of the previous games may be dissapointed in this new effort as continully beating up monsters can become very tedious.

Fun:
When I saw the new Spyro advertised, I got a bit too excited! Having played all so far and enjoyed them immensley, I always look forward to the new one. This time, got home and started playing and found myself dissappointed. Although it's beautifully done and gets you into the game play easily (better than usual as it always takes a while to get into it again after playing different games), I was very dissappointed to find that there are no gems lying about any more. To me, that made the game cute and fun from the off. Now you have to kill to get gems, and although there has always been killing, it now seems more about killing than moving around great looking and interesting levels. Half the fun has always been finding your way around and collecting gems, great little hidden levels, lots of different puzzle games, imaginative skills you never knew a dragon could be capable of, etc etc but now the enemies just don't stop coming and it takes a lot more effort to kill them.

Having said that, it's a great looking game, quick running with a story to it and very easy to get into. Spyro's new skills are cool, fresh and effective and make you want to keep playing.

To be honest, I'm just getting started and only a few hours in but I just wanted to warn people that it's a far cry from the Spyro's of old!

Thanks for listening! :0)

Fun:
I have been a big fan of this cute purple dragon since the beginning so couldn't wait for his latest adventures, WHAT A LETDOWN!!

This is nothing like any of the previous games, no real gem collecting, no bright little worlds, no fun enemies to defeat its just gloomy and boring, they've turned Spyro into a shoot-em-up fighting combat game, not my scene at all.

I ordered this on day of release and along with my husband and friend started playing as soon as it arrived, I gave up after 1 hour through boredom, my husband played for about 3 hours and is already half way through and my friend has already completed the game, it took her about 2 days( not continuously!!!)

we are all really disappointed and think this game is a real waste of money, if you are a Spyro fan this is probably not for you.

"Come back Insomniac games your Spyro needs you"

Good if you have a spare hour
Whilst being a fun game, there is not enough to do and the game was finished before it had really begun. The Spiro franchise is a good one but this one didnt have enough in it.

Not the worst Spyro game, but definitely room for improvement
The title of worst Spyro game still goes to Enter the Dragonfly. This is a reboot of the series, so isn't related at all to the original games, which is a shame, as there were some... Read more
