5.0 out of 5 stars The Real Robin Hood, 5 April 2007
By Hooded Man (Sherwood, England) - See all my reviews
This is one of the most atmospheric productions that I have ever seen. The costumes and weaponry are authentic and Martin Potter gives a convincing portrayal of defender of the people. Sadly, the usual archery contest is absent, but there is a scene in Part 1 showing Robin splitting the wand three times in succession. The sword fight between Robin and Richard is convincing and showed both were exhausted at the end, when Robin cheekily says "I see you are winded my lord!"This is a two disc set with a running time of 5 hours and is the best version I've seen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!, 3 Feb 2007
This is a Godsend, 32 years after it's only showing on television it's a show that has become a legend in it's own right... Yes it's low budget and rather set-bound but made with commitment and a wonderful sense of time and place. Martin Potter is awsome as Robin, noble, gentle natured but cold steel running through his veins - as I'm sure the "real" Robin must have been. His voice is that of the young Olivier but thankfully his performance is totally unmannered-unlike Olivier. Forget the new pop TV version which has no sense of period other than fashionable grubbiness -buy the Legend.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Difinitive! Fantastic stuff!, 16 Aug 2006
By Mr. C. J. Iredale "juxtapose" (hezza bezza) - See all my reviews

It's been a while, and I thought this would never see the light of day (I still will only believe it when I see it!); there is a point of view that this wins over Robin of Sherwood over the best version of Robin Hood. And it is a fair one, despite Kip Carpenter's version was fab and mystical etc. Paul Darrow as the Sherrif is great and the whole thing is very serious and dark whith, if I remember correctly, a beheading! One to buy, support 2 Entertain. Hopfully they'll release more gems of this nature.
