The last time I encountered Leaves' Eyes ended up with me almost drowning in Glaswegian pish, being struck by lightning and sharing a bar with ill fated Elis singer Sabine Dunser. So you will appreciate why it took me a while to summon up the courage.
Now I must admit that there seems to some kind of desperate craving for success permeating the aura of vocalist Liv Kristine, but they don't have make some great music. I still say "Vinland Saga" is the finest goth metal album yet, knocking your Lacuna Coils and Nightwishes into the proverbial cocked hat.
And wih the former having lurched into some tune free career void, the more discerning fan should be gobbling up Leaves' Eyes with alacrity. Rarely has the dense, orchestrated male/femle vox template sounded as good. This stop gap mini album packs more good ideas into 21 minutes than most bands manage in several albums, with 'Skraelings' and 'The Crossing' essential listening.
Here's hoping the punters do the right thing and start buying Leaves' Eyes records by the truckload before Liv has her next stab at solo success.
