An Essential Reggae CD 26 Dec. 2014
By Ivan Howe The Great - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Being it one of the strongest works by Peter Tosh, “Legalize It” is a classic reggae disc that covers topics such as legalization of marijuana in Jamaica for medical purposes –he has already covered this issue on “Bush Doctor”- death, love and religion. BTW, “Legalize It” deals with cultural issues –smoking ganja and stuff-, as well as in “Bush Doctor”. “Burial” sounds like a mournful chant. But it has a different meaning to Rastafarians, since they don't attend funerals for religious reasons. “Whatcha Gonna Do?”, “No Sympathy” and “Why Must I Cry?” have very touching lyrics about love, while “Igziabeher (Let Jah Be Praised)” has a deep religious feeling. Tosh also has some sense of fun on the playful “Ketchy Shubby”. All in all, this stuff is a must have for any reggae fan. (Note: I got the original 1976, not the version sold here).
