Product Description

It is twenty years since the once-magical land of Thimhallan was shattered by the forging of the Darksword.  The survivors of that catastrophe now live on Earth, bereft of magic and hope, forbidden to return home.

Only Joram remains behind on the world ravaged by his Darksword.  Although the magic weapon has been destroyed--and with it, Joram's power--rumors have risen that Joram has forged a second Darksword.

Now, as a merciless alien race threatens Earth with annihilation, Earth's desperate leaders look to Joram as their only hope.  But even as his old friend Saryon begins the perilous journey to seek his aid, the embittered Joram has his own plans for the weapon.

And Joram is not the only one.  Soon a new menace looms, foreshadowing betrayal, enslavement, and death to humans and Thimhallans alike.

Returning to one of their best-loved fantasy series, Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman bring alive a sweeping tale of intrigue and magic.

I enjoyed the book. I didn't feel that the view of the future presented in this book was all that unreasonable. Again, so they didn't mention television. It doesn't mean it didn't exit. Saryon was an intellectual. It stands to reason that he'd prefer radio and the www over t.v.

I'll be the first to admit that the book wasn't as good as the trilogy, but it was a lot better than many "pass the torch" books I've read. I shook my head at many parts of the book, but it kept me interested all the way through and introduced some new characters to keep things going. Again, it's not their best, but I still feel it's worth reading.

Absolutely Abysmal 2 Jun 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Im trying to phrase this without using any obscenities, and its quite difficult. How to describe how utterly atrocious this book is? How to describe how it desecrates and ruins the beautiful original Trilogy? These are things that cannot be described, only experienced.

Everything that made the original trilogy so good is gone. Intriguing characters, rational explanations - all gone. Why has Simkin returned? Why is Mosiah a Duuk-Tsarith? Why do people say God, when every Thimhallan would say Almin? Why is it in annoying first-person perspective?

Basically, this book is trash. If you must, purchase it. But be warned - it is not a true sequel to the Darksword trilogy. There is no sequel to the Darksword trilogy. Excepting perhaps Adventures.

The original trilogy was in a class of its own, and having heard what others had to say about this book I thought I'd leap to its defence. I read this straight after reading the original three books, and although it wasn't up to the standard set by the late-80's series (is it me or were Weis and Hickman on a serious roll then?) it still has its moments, though generally it's not as gripping.

But, that said, you've still got Simkin to provide some serious laughs, and he's hilarious, especially in the last few pages.

If you're a real Weis and Hickman fan, read it, otherwise you'll only be left wondering what it's like....
