5.0 out of 5 stars masterpiece, 22 Nov 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Leftoverture (Audio CD)
Like most albums produced by Kansas in the 70's this is an absolute gem. Ok, there might not be a lot of 'Hit Singles' on it and the songs are epic at times but that's why they were the forerunners for bands like Dream Theater, Queensryche or much of the rock and progrock bands that came after them. They have however nothing in common with cheesy 80's rock bands like Europe.

4.0 out of 5 stars The precursor of their masterpiece, 15 Feb 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Leftoverture (Audio CD)
Please do not ever mention Kansas in the same sentence with Europe! The complex arrangements and time signatures, the rich instrumentation and outstanding musicianship, together with some inspired melodies put Kansas in a league of its own.

"Carry On" is a great song, but there are other gems in this album if you have the patience to listen to it carefully.

It paved the way for their masterpiece: "Point Of Known Return" and deserves a place in every Kansas fan's collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Prog Masterpiece, 1 Mar 2011
This review is from: Leftoverture (Audio CD)
A definate must-buy for all lovers of classic prog music of the 70s. OK, this is not some Topographic Oceans or Thick as a Brick, certainly not in concept, but as an album of individual tracks it is a thoroughly enjoyable experience. This is a band who were not afraid of thinking carefully about what they wrote - this is certainly not middle of the road fodder - and the last track Magnum Opus contains some of the most beautifull sound arrangements I have ever heard in the electronic music genre. And I can say it again : Is this band American? Their music from the mid-seventies sounds so British in structure. If you love any prog from this period, I recommend that you get this album.
