Book Description

“We’d been holed up in the Scottish countryside hotel for six weeks when the situation reached breaking point. The bus was running on gas fumes when we pulled into the Glenross Hotel parking lot and we hadn’t needed to venture outside into the continuous, howling blizzard since.”
“Certain people in our group had too much time on their hands, with not enough to occupy themselves. Too much alcohol consumption led to arguments - arguments led to fights, which led to bad feelings, unresolved grudges and threats of retribution. The collective harmonious and collaborative atmosphere soon evaporated, replaced by an air of distrust and hostility.”
“Our little group cut ties with the rest of the survivors. We were forced to go it alone, away from the hotel. We were faced with the harsh Scottish winter weather conditions in a perilous landscape, where hordes of hostile zombies lurked in every surrounding wood, field, village and building.”

“Left In The Cold” is the fourth installment of the “Left Series,” following the exploits of Brett Wilde, Smith, Batfish and Spot in their quest to find a safe haven in a post-apocalyptic world, where the dead have risen and seek to devour human flesh.

4.0 out of 5 stars Time to up the game 15 Nov. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have loved reading books 1 to 4 and look fwd to the continuation.

Just a couple of things - main one being Brett. I'm getting a little tired of his inability to learn. They break up to try to enter the castle and he and Batfish get in. They then calmly proceed to sit down, chat and eat whilst the others are outside fighting zombies/possibily being eaten - really?

Then he couldn't dispose of Maddie on two occasions.

This was compounded at the end by his sitting in a pub (having not secured their entrance/exit route), on watch, and deliberately getting drunk despite a mortal threat from some Neds.

I could go on.

There has to be a better way to generate thrills than eventually wishing Brett dead so that a more intelligent character takes over. Maybe Smith could put him out of his misery and a maturing Jimmy could take his place.

Brett could have wounded Maddie to slow down the Zombies and watch her suffer for her actions. Creative torture - she got off too lightly. As for the Neds, the suspense could have been created from his alertness rather than his stupidity.

It would be good to see the characters evolve to take on a more dynamic role otherwise its same old, same old of bad/stupid decisions followed by getting out of the shit again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Average read. 21 Dec. 2013

Not a fan of zombie stories. The main character remains naive and unable to adapt ignoring past event experiences causing later naratives to be rather boring and often frustrating to read. one may argue he's a bit of a softy but I would say stupid. Why would he have not learned at the end to get sloshed when on guard duty? The plot just about held it together for me to get to the end.

Another 5 stars for The Left Series but this time the author has exceeded all the previous books.
I am not going to give anything away by any slight criticism I only wish I were among the survival team so I could lend a hand why? because everyone wants to be scared especially when you know you can outrun them............bring on the next book !!!!!!!!
