5.0 out of 5 stars A first person shooter I can actually play! 20 Jan 2010
Platform for Display:PC|Edition:Game Of The Year Edition
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
No, it is not that I cannot play first person shooters because I am useless at them, but because I get horrible motion sickness from them. I kept seeing my husband playing this game and, as I watched, I realised I was not getting as much motion sickness as I usually do when I watch him play other games like Sierra Best Sellers: Half-Life (DVD Packaging) or Half-Life 2: The Orange Box (PC DVD). So, I tried Portal (PC DVD), and I found I could play it.

And then I took the leap and tried L4D and discovered the joy of first person shooters. The game is great to play either on your own or online. The game is designed to play co-operatively in an attempt to outrun the "infected" and make it to the next safe house and finally to be rescued. It keeps up the pressure and makes sure you work together as a team. So I had to get my own copy to be able to play on my own computer and online. The characters' banter is beautifully done (although sometimes it might get a bit repetitive), the special infected make sure you keep your guard up and the AI makes sure it pushes you forward by sending in a surge of "infected" your way if you are being too slow in progressing through the game or by putting special "infected" in trickier placements if you are doing particularly well. The challenge is there and no two levels are ever the same.

Left 4 Dead - Game Of The Year Edition (PC DVD)
as a 1st person fan playing Counterstrike Source I bought this game hearing raving reviews from friends and family. This game is not for the more thought provoking gaming fan but a welcome realease as a game you can pick up and play. Fast and frenetic the only objective is to survive, the atmoshphere is built through the level by dark alleyways and rooms lit only by your flashtorch and the varied sounds of creatures around you. I would recommend this game to anyone who just likes to get lost inside a game and rate this as the most fun had in the last few years.
Online gaming is also soo much fun but can leave you frustrated at the people playing with you not working as a team but the fact you can play as the zombies adds a new dimension that will keep you captivated. as above truelly 5 star fun!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Zombietastic 19 Oct 2009
Platform for Display:PC|Edition:Game Of The Year Edition
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
If ever there was a game that you couldn't put down then this is it. The game itself is great, but what makes it really stand out is the online element. Playing online with three other people trying to hold back the zombie hoards is simply amazing.Everytime you play it's a different experience, play one server where everyone works together or play another where its everyone for themself. However teamwork is the answer to getting a new best survival time. You make friends and look out for each other, decide on survival strategy, and take as many of the zombies, hunters, smokers etc with you as you can. Time passes quickly in game and before you know it hours have gone by.If its cold and dark outside, stay in keep the lights off and have the best fun ever! Watch out for the Tanks lol

5.0 out of 5 stars Can you survive a zombie apocalypse? 7 Jan 2010
Platform for Display:PC|Edition:Game Of The Year Edition
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Ever since i was was a kid i have been facinated by the thought of zombies overrunning the country and how the small pockets of human life left would exist in this world, Left 4 Dead is the closest you will get to it. The game kicks off with a small movie sequence showing four characters, (Bill, Louis, Zoey and Francis) making their way across a street 2 weeks after the infection began. This may not sound too exciting but, (and without saying too much about it) it does set the pace for the rest of the game. Don`t expect to find out much about the reason behind the "infection" or even to have any clear ending for the characters, (rather like the George A Romero`s `Of The Dead` series of films) but subtle details in the game do immerse you into the undead world you are roaming through. Read the hand written notes on the safe houses to see what i mean...
The game itself is gorgeous to look at and the controls are simple enough to use, adopting the WASD keyboard and mouse which have become custom to many first person shooters on the PC. Teamwork is the key to this game, as stragglers or people who get too far ahead of the rest of the group are penilised by either being overrun by the common infected or by getting pinned down by one of the special infected which pop up occasionly.
Campaign is my favourite mode and especially if played with 3 other players online, playing single player is ok and the AI of the other members are pretty good but nothing beats the spontinuity of real life players. The AI director decides when the infected bombard you depends on how you are doing with the campaign and also decides if and when you should get health packs/ammo/new guns which makes every game slightly different.

5.0 out of 5 stars awesome horror film as a game 30 Jan 2010
Platform for Display:PC|Edition:Game Of The Year Edition
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This game is based on a film shooting. Your are one of four major protagonists and u have to survive 5 levels to reach the final rescue scene.

During this levels you have to kill masses of zombies including some special opponents, such as hunters (jumping from far away on you), smokers (catching you with there super large tongue), boomers (infecting you with their zombie attracting vomit) an tanks (kind of final enemy, very strong, very huge). Only with the help of your team u can reach the final rescue scene. Therefore u have a pretty good KI, but it makes more fun playing the game via ethernet or internet (no problem via steam). There are also lots of user-made maps u can download for free on several sites. You always have a pistol. During the game you can improve by carrying one more pistol (double pistol) and finding a secondary weapon (such as shotgun, M6, sniper rifle or uzi). There even exist Monotow cocktails and granates. There is also a versus mode: you can play zombies versus human and so you can even be a zombie.
This great game gives you a very good horror feeling. Together with sudden appearances of special opponents who drag you down, sudden rush of huge amounts of zombies the tension is continously high!

Absoulutely recommendable !!!!
