Product Description

Product Description

Third novel in the LEE series. Nothing is ever straighforward when Lee is around. Not even a summer holiday in Spain. It ought to be a case of lazing by the pool, but Lee is soon spying on dodgy men in shiny suits and sunglasses, battling with a family who seem determined to ruin everyone's holiday and haranguing horrendous reps like Creepy Kev. With so much going on, how will Lee ever find time to get a tan?

5.0 out of 5 stars If Harry Potter wasn't silly enough for you -- this is!, 29 Nov 2007
By S. A. Oates - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Lee's Holiday Showdown (Lee) (Lee Series) (Paperback)
This is the story of Lee, who is not very bright, very funny, and one of the best reads for children I have found in years. Keith Charters has the unusual ability to get inside the absurd world of a child, with hysterical misunderstandings and bizarre consequences, without ever being condescending or false. The result are stories that show the silliness of the adult's world through the eyes of child -- and for once an endearing kid who tends to leap to conclusions (like some you might have in your own house ... ) A fresh, new book that would make a good gift for kids, both your own and the inevitable 10-year-old nephew that is hard to buy for. My girls (7 and 10) both liked Lee a lot, but also would equal appeal to boys (like the Harry Potter books, which have a male central character but universal appeal because it's talking about the universe of childhood in general). And just let me say a huge relief to find stories that are pony-free and fairy-free. I would say this is for about six to about 12, although I find Lee's antics hysterical (I'm 44) but arguably I'm a bit childish. But I guarantee you'll be laughing (in recognition perhaps ... ) by the end of the first chapter. The writer is from Scotland, like JK Rowling, and you begin to wonder why there is so much good children's lit from there ... maybe something in the water, eh?
