Book Description

Few footballers make their League debut as late as 24. Few footballers score their first professional goal with an overhead kick. Few footballers are like Lee Trundle.

About the Author

Lee Trundle was born in Liverpool in 1976 and, after making his Football League debut at 24, played for Wrexham, Bristol City and Leeds United. A striker with more than one hundred goals to his name, Lee has regularly been voted one of the best players outside the Premiership and has achieved cult status for his tricks with the ball during games.

Chris Wathan is one of Wales's leading football writers. He is football correspondent for all of Media Wales's titles, including Wales on Sunday and the Western Mail.

A book that makes fascinating reading about a young lad from Liverpool with tremendous talent as a footballer who wasted so many years by not taking things seriously but went on to achieve something approaching cult status through his amazing skills with Welsh club Swansea City. Because it is written in conjunction with a serious professional sports journalist the book does not attempt to go for the easy option of pages and pages of sex and boozing that might have been the preferred route for a tabloid journalist. It is an honest account by a player who has regrets that he could have achieved so much more if he had entered the professional game in his teens rather than at 24 when the birth of a daughter finally galvanised him into taking the game seriously. Yes you need to be a football fan to appreciate the descriptions of the highs and lows of Trundle's football career but the book in many ways is inspirational in the way a shy young lad from a northern English city has embraced the Welsh City of Swansea and its football club.
