Product Description

Product Description

Former No.1 in The Herald' Children's Bestsellers list. It's not every day that a part of your body explodes, but Lee's appendix does exactly that, landing him in hospital. Soon after his operation, Lee is shocked to discover that evil Consul Mutants are trying to take over the world. Worse still, the hospital he is stuck in contains the portal they are using to invade Earth. Other kids might quake in their boots at this news, but not Lee. He's determined to save the planet and comes up with a cunning plan to stop the aliens. This is the story of a fearless boy battling against intergalactic odds for the sake of mankind. Lee's only weapon is his intelligence...which is a pity.

About the Author

Keith Charters has lived all over the UK, and now lives near Glasgow. He studied at the University of Strathclyde and should have gained a first class honours degree, but missed out by half a percent, mainly because he was playing snooker when he should have been studying. (Let this be a lesson to all.) After graduating, Keith worked in various business management roles, ending up in London, where he headed up part of a big, rather strange, financial company in which staff got paid for shouting at their customers...and at each other. It was weird. At this point Keith started writing a lot. An awful lot. Soon writing was taking over his life. He decided that he wanted to play with words for the rest of his life, so he took a deep breath, gave up his proper job and began writing full-time. Lee and the Consul Mutants was the first fruit of his labours. It took the no.1 spot in The Herald s Children s Bestsellers chart during 2006, with Lee Goes For Gold no.4 at the same time. Keith never looked back. Out came Lee s Holiday Showdown followed by Lee on the Dark Side of the Moon However, you can read the Lee novels in any order you like. As well as writing, Keith now visits over 100 schools, libraries and book festivals each year and is renowned for his hilarious and energetic events.

I have read this and following books by Keith A Charters and have not been disappointed yet. I met Keith, got his autograph and he replied to an e-mail I had sent to him. A great writer and a great guy too!!
I think his children deserve a mention as I'm sure they were the source of his stories.

Packed with jokes, of both the sly and custard pie varieties, this book introduces us to a typical yet extraordinary ten-year-old boy, with beautifully paced narration and crackling, genuine dialogue.

The book is bang up-to-date with its cultural and technological references, but at the same time there is something wonderfully traditional about the story: a young boy and his friends fighting against the mysteries of the adult world.

Lee is for real. He's the child I like to think still lives inside me. Whether he's attempting to save the world from aliens or trying to track down a bacon sandwich, Lee chases his goals with the same energy and great humour that makes you cheer him on.

And hey, at the end of it all, it's just very, very funny.
