About the Author

Since deciding that growing up and getting a proper job was highly overrated at the tender age of 18, New Zealander Jessica Lee has travelled extensively in Asia, Africa and Latin America. A small obsession with houmous and a large obsession with nomadic people led her to the Middle East in 2004 where she fell in love with the Arabic language and the incredible hospitality of the people. She has lived there full-time since 2007, working as a tour leader as well as a writer. When not on the overland trail between Cairo and Istanbul, she can usually be found among the fairy chimneys of central Anatolia where she is attempting to renovate a cave-house.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great guide for independent travellers 28 Sep 2011
Format:Hardcover
This is exactly the sort of travel book I like: written by someone not only knowledgable but who also loves the country and loves travelling -- these are clear from Jessica's in-depth, and humorous, comments.

It also appealed as it is targetted at independent travellers, and the information was very helpful to me in planning my trip to Lebanon. Bus routes and suggestions, a broad range of hotels, sights famous and not-so-well known...a great guide.

While I would've liked some more, or larger, maps, that is the only minor complaint

Used this guide for a recent 8-day trip to Lebanon. It has very good, accurate and up-to-date practical information on hotels, guest houses, transport (the service taxi system, what prices to expect to pay etc), museums, hiking, guides, and much more. I also enjoyed the background sections on old as well as recent history.
