I bought this 2 cd/dvd set on the simple proviso: the song 'No, I Don't Remember'..3 versions thereof. Easy. I adore that song, lets hunt her down on youtube. In fact i would normally never pay over the mark for any set of cds, let alone one with live tracks..some artistes cannot cut muster.

But of course Anna Ternheim has played differently on all her cds, varied her state of play, changed her playing-fields. Any one expecting just another lighthouse in the dark bay kinda bash of music like her debut or similar, or praying for stasis will possibly be disappointed. That she has moved about means she is pliable.

I did however think that a few tracks of the main cd were slightly over produced, with her voice hurtling through sounds or instrumentation not unlike Bjork. Yet, the acoustic versions are a scandinavian treat, the live versions at variance with the produced poppy product. In short, like any very talented artist she seems to have room to manouever simply because she doesn't lose something when she experiments, as many can do if they only follow one path.

Not unlike being lost in a studio at times perhaps, i think the only track that overpopped was Make it on My Own, which reminded me (heaven forfend)of a post Abba, Abba, which is no mean feat. The dvd shows that simplicity is the key to a musical entity, and i would dare say this will sit neatly near my Seventh Seal dvd. More gorgeous than death.

Scandinavia has been churning out a rich array of female singer-songwriters in recent years and decades: Anna Ternheim, Ane Brun, Nina Kinert in the world of acoustic music accompanied by strings, Kari Bremnes in folk, Silje Nergaard in modern jazz, and Lykke Li (not my cup of tea) in pop. Cementing her popularity in her native Sweden, Ternheim has won five Swedish Grammies since she released her debut Somebody Outside in 2004. An album uniting songs from her first two albums has been released in the US, where she regularly tours. In Germany, she plays - usually twice a year - to sold-out crowds, sold on the emotional authenticity of her lyrics, her autodidactic playing of guitar and piano and the crystal clarity of her singing (characterised by a Swedish accent that is fast disappearing since her move to New York).

Her debut album touched a chord (to use a cliché...) with me when it was released: the sheer emotional truth of her lyrics and their hollow, insulated delivery evoked a vulnerability that was made all the more isolated by its sparse production. Songs like 'I say no' (on protecting yourself from friends who are probably bad for you), 'I'll follow you tonight' (agreeing to a daliance with someone more out of emotional need than geniune attraction) and 'Somebody Outside' (on the importance of listening to your own voice) created an intimacy with the audience from which Ternheim tried to distance herself on her second album.

I was looking for the track "Quiet Night" by Anna Ternheim as broadcast during the Wallander detective TV program. After searching around I gained the impression this disc would include it. But no. By a process of elimination I deduce that Quiet Night is probably owned by the TV company producing the Wallander programme, and not purchasable as a piece of music on disc. It would be good if Amazon could make this clear. Otherwise the technical aspects of the sale - billing, timely delivery and intact arrival of goods were exemplary.

I was captivated by "Quiet Night" used in the Swedish Wallander TV series. So I bought some Anna Ternheim. This is a bit more produced, a bit more forced. It's her first album with new material since she moved to the USA and seems to have moved from her roots a bit more. It's on my Ipod and may grow on me.
