I recently received the Sony NEX-5 as a birthday present and decided I would need a case for it (it's such a beautiful camera I don't want to get a scratch on it!) I looked into getting the "official" Sony case, but wasn't too keen to spend over £80 for it, so I thought I would look at some alternatives.
This case isn't perfect, but it's well worth the £60+ in savings. It's made of PU Leather (which actually is more like plastic - I looked it up and it legally can't be called "leather" in the UK) and feels and smells like plastic, but the lining is a nice soft velvety material and it feels sturdy enough to protect the camera. The smaller part of the case which screws into the bottom of the camera is a good snug fit and can be kept on when using the camera, but has to be removed to charge the battery or take out the memory card (not a big deal to me). The larger part of the case which covers the lens as well as the camera is looser, so not quite as nice a fit, but I figure it's better than it being too tight and putting pressure on the lens.
All in all, it does what it sets out to do. It provides enough protection so that I can carry the camera around with me in my bag and not worry about it getting scratched up or damaged. I would definitely recommend it to those who want to save some money and don't care if it's made of genuine leather or looks perfect.
