Product Description

Stephanie Ann "Sam" McRae's busy, but orderly life as a Maryland lawyer takes a chaotic turn when two clients are accused of murder. A poor, black girl is accused of killing her mother. A young man suspected of embezzlement is accused of murdering his boss. The cases collide in a bizarre way involving girl gangs and computer pornography.

Sam ventures into the heart of DC's suburban ghettos to find answers. A maniacal killer who'll do anything to hide them stalks her. After a nearly disastrous confrontation, Sam must do business on the run. As the body count grows, Sam races to learn the truth and clear her clients before she becomes the next victim.

REVIEWS AND ENDORSEMENTS
"LEAST WANTED is a brave, heartbreaking, and thrilling book with a complex plot that takes attorney Sam McRae on a dizzying tour of several circles of urban hell, against a backdrop of white-collar crime. I loved it, and I admire Mack for writing it without flinching or suggesting easy answers. It's a sequel that outdoes IDENTITY CRISIS and holds the promise of a great series."
-- Timothy Hallinan, author of THE QUEEN OF PATPONG and CRASHED

"In LEAST WANTED, Debbi Mack serves up a solid mystery plot wired together with high octane suspense. Washington, DC attorney Sam McRae is smart, tough and dedicated, but her latest cases in LEAST WANTED push her to her limits. Defending two clients accused of murder, she finds herself dealing with girl gangs, pornography and crazed killers. For mystery and suspense, it’s Laura Lippman’s Tess Monaghan in Baltimore and Robert B. Parker’s Spenser in Boston, but Sam McRae is the woman to have at your back in Washington."
-- Austin S. Camacho, author of the Hannibal Jones mystery series

"Sam McRae is back and as brash as ever, with a colorful cast, a relentless plot, and enough twists to leave you breathless. Debbi Mack has carved her own niche in the mystery pantheon."
-- Scott Nicholson, author of DISINTEGRATION

"LEAST WANTED hooks you from the start and never lets go. A fascinating and absorbing mystery."
-- Simon Wood, author of LOWLIFES

"Fast-paced and brimming with dark, twisting plot turns, LEAST WANTED will keep crime and mystery buffs off balance and guessing until the very end."
-- J.T. Cummins, author of COBBLESTONES

"From its clever—and ironic—title to the carefully drawn characters ..., LEAST WANTED is a worthy sequel to Debbi Mack's first crime novel."
-- Jeremiah Healy, author of THE ONLY GOOD LAWYER and A STAIN UPON THE ROBE

"Sam McRae is not your run of the mill attorney. She is a strong, intelligent, and fiercely committed advocate, who puts her life on the line in the pursuit of justice. Author Debbi Mack brings to the hardboiled genre, a fresh voice and direct writing style that gives this richly layered mystery a feeling of authenticity I found wholly compelling. The multifaceted plot grips the reader like a falcon's talons and never lets go."
--Lawrence Kelter, bestselling author of The Stephanie Chalice Mystery Series

5.0 out of 5 stars Well-Crafted Legal Thriller 23 Dec 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
Sam McRae fans will be delighted to know that after all her hair-raising adventures in IDENTITY CRISIS she's back in action. LEAST WANTED, Debbi Mack's newest hard-boiled legal mystery, is a great, fast-paced read.

I'm not sure "legal mystery" is a term Debbi would use, but Sam's careful use of her legal training and loyalty to her clients and to the rules of procedure, drawn, I'm sure from Debbi's own experience as a lawyer, is a lot of what I like best about these books. Also Sam's plucky, intelligent dedication and sense of humor.

LEAST WANTED brings together two extremely disparate plot lines-- one white collar embezzelment, the other a gritty urban murder-- and riding on the outcome of the whole thing is the future of a bright but troubled teenager who should have a better chance in life. Cheering for Sam as she picks her way through the clues ever so carefully is a joy in this well-crafted book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Reasonable read 1 Aug 2011

I have to admit Debbi Mack is a new author to me and I didn't read the first in this series, Identity Crisis.

'Least Wanted' continues tales of the exploits of the central character attorney Sam McRae. Sam is juggling a huge workload of diverse cases. The cases vary from divorce, accident compensation, embezzlement right through to murder.

While I felt the story was reasonably well written, I did find that at times I had to do a double take to recall exactly who was who in the supporting characters. Perhaps this was a lack of full concentration on my part but that is not something I usually have difficulty with, particularly once I become engrossed in a story. Maybe there were just too many plot lines being thrown into the mix and not expanded or developed sufficiently to fully impact?

Everything did tie in neatly at the end and all the story lines were drawn together.

I wouldn't describe this as a tremendously gripping or page turning read but it certainly doesn't fall into the category of 'don't bother' - a reasonable read and I'm sure as the author progresses and develops the Sam McRae character further, it could turn into an interesting series to follow.

5.0 out of 5 stars For once the sequel outdoes the prequel! 13 July 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a great sequel to IDENTITY CRISIS, which I also enjoyed, but this is better. Sam McRae has thankfully recovered from her previous ordeals and her character is further developed as she tries to get to the bottom of another criminal case. Debbi Mack's style of writing is addictive and I felt disappointed to get to the final page and was left wanting more. If you are thinking about buying LEAST WANTED and haven't read the first in the series then I would suggest borrowing or buying that before reading this. Don't get me wrong, this is a great book but it is made even better by reading the original and getting more and more into Sam's character. Enjoy!

3.0 out of 5 stars Least Wanted, a crime thriller
Well told and fast paced. Scattered with local references [Maryland] and urban slang which this UK reviewer needed to decipher. Final unravelling covered in a rapid few pages.

Although, as others have noted, this story draws in many threads from apparently disparate cases for our heroine to solve, nevertheless it drags you along, slip-sliding to keep up. Read more
