Review

"An excellent text - good links to standards, thoughtful and provocative for students" (GTP Manager, University of Derby)

Product Description

This popular text guides trainee secondary teachers through the teaching requirements for initial teacher training and the Professional Standards for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). It focuses on a range of key topics, summarises key educational research and includes both reflective exercises and school-based practical tasks. This third edition has been completely revised and updated to match the new QTS Standards.

2.0 out of 5 stars Frustratingly Too Long, 10 Oct 2010
This review is from: Learning and Teaching in Secondary Schools (Achieving QTS) (Paperback)
This is the kind of book that drives me to distraction. Each chapter promises to be fact filled and informative - so you turn to the section on the QTS standard you are interested in and yes, you get a summary of the salient points. Then, before fleshing out the content, you get a quiz or other such "go and reflect", "go and discuss" statement. Then the book picks up where it left off and fills in the content.

Granted, the substance of this title is good and solid, but when will publishers learn that not all ITT students want texts like this?? I want a text to be a factual repository, not a weak substitute for an inspirational lecturer.
