Book Description

20 Feb 2012
“If I’d blinked, I would have missed it. But I didn’t, and I saw something fall from the rear deck of the opposite ferry: a small, wide-eyed human face, in one tiny frozen moment, as it plummeted toward the water.”

When she sees what looks like a child tumbling from a ferry into frigid Lake Champlain, Troy Chance dives in without thinking. When she gets the child to shore she discovers that his name is Paul, he speaks only French—and no one seems to be looking for him.
Her determination to protect Paul pulls Troy from her quiet life in a small Adirondack town into an unfamiliar world of wealth and privilege in Canada and then in Vermont. Her attachment to him—and the danger she faces when she tries to unravel the mystery of his abandonment—force her to evaluate everything she thought true about herself.
Sara J. Henry's riveting, award-winning debut will keep readers engrossed right up to its shattering conclusion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Debut 13 May 2011
Format:Hardcover
This first book from Sara J Henry really captivated me. From the very first chapter I was grabbed by the scruff of my neck and hauled through the story to be dumped, panting, at the end. I believed in the characters - and more importantly I 'cared' what happend to the key players. At no point did I work out what was going to happen next (as I sometimes do) and was never disappointed with what did. A stunning debut in my view. I can't wait for more from this author!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Learning to Swim 16 Jun 2011
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
A hugely enjoyable book - but don't start it if you are going to be busy in the next few days because you may not be able to put it down! It begins with a woman witnessing a little boy being deliberately drowned off a ferry on a lake between Canada and the USA. She rescues him and discovers that he speaks only French, and to her surprise there are no anxious parents looking for him - he seems to have come from nowhere. She sets out to discover who he is... and runs great risk herself. An intriguing story, full of believable characters and a thoroughly satisfying ending.

I loved this book from start to finish but almost didn't buy it as the title misled me a bit. I couldn't put it down once I started it.
