I have a lot of introductory books on the Raspberry Pi and was a little hesitant about buying this book as it is more expensive than the others - I am pleased that I did as it is the best book I have read so far about the using the Raspberry Pi and have learned so much! It is very clearly set out with many excellent examples. So far have used it to find out a lot more about the Linux OS, how to remotely control my Raspberry Pi from my Windows PC and also how to set up a LAMP webserver. I am now going to move on to the chapters about wireless computing (WiPi), linking a webcam to make a sPi (spy pi) to detect movement and the creating a Pi media centre. This book is a "must buy" for the Raspberry Pi enthusiast - my congratulations to the authors.

I've thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's well written, humorous and very informative. I'll admit to being a little put off by the title, but once you've read it and understood the premise (and very real need) for the book, it makes sense.

If you're like me you may become distracted towards the end of some of the chapters, but now finished it'll prove a useful reference.

Given the inherent limitations of the RPi you will need to get your hands dirty to get the most out of it. This books gives you the confidence and ability to navigate and exploit the O/S without using the resource intensive GUI.

So great book, really recommended it. It is full of information you really do need, and I wonder how else you would learn it.

This has spurred my interest in other "Distros" and I've recently installed Ubuntu on my backup PC.

Time to get my Geek-On!!!!

As a complete beginner in Linux I was hoping to get a swift and simple introduction. This book does that, but near the end in the project to get the Pi to email photos when the webcam spots some movement I found a couple of typing errors in the code that had me completely stumped for a long time. Admittedly there is also the problem that writing things on a Macbook in TextEdit with smart quotes active means that your ' gets changed to a ` and that is business-critical to a Linux bash script, but even when I solved that gotcha there were minor things that I had to work out step by step to find where the code wasn't quite right. Of course it is possible that reading the book on a Kindle didn't help.

Generally I am happy with the book. It taught me a lot, but I still need more Linux reference material.

This book is a very useful book for anyone learning to use a Raspberry Pi and not familiar with command line computing.
