This book shows you the very basics of how to knit in the first 23 pages - how to cast on, how to increase and decrease, how to finish. There is then a range of 20 projects rated easy, intermediate and advanced.

As someone who has never knitted before, I thought I would start with the very first and easiest project. However, I didn't get further than trying to read the pattern! Unfortunately, this book offers little guidance on this tricky subject. Also, the easiest project has three different colours, but it there are no instructions on how to change colours. It refers to 'slipping stitches' and 'slipstitch work' without telling you what this means. I found this very frustrating!

This book may be nice for someone with some knitting experience already, but then they would have no need for the first 23 pages. I am now looking for another book to fill in the gaps!!

The patterns include a pretty cot blanket, a childs jumper, a plain unisex jumper and a ladies cardigan. Examples of easy projects are a potholder and a cushion cover. Pom-pom hats, gloves and a tea-cosy are nice small projects for intermediate knitters (although the designs are a bit retro!) 2 stars given as the Amazon price makes it quite good value if the 20 projects are to your taste.

I had absolutely no knitting experience but was keen to learn and was given this book as a Christmas present along with the needles and wool required for the first "project"...... following the pictures and steps in the book I failed to even be able to cast on!! The patterns are simple enough, I think, but written in a way that I feel you would need to be a bit more experienced to be able to follow (as a complete movice knitting patterns, generally, seem like a foreign language to me!). There is virtually no explanation of basic things like tension, how to change colours, how to finish work, etc. As a previous reviewer has said it does seem as if some of the "steps" are missing.

Fortunately I didn't hang up my needles for good - determined to become a knitter I bought Knitty Gritty: Knitting for the Absolute Beginner and my experience of that book couldn't have been more different. I'm now enjoying learning how to knit!!!!

This book is neither easy to use or informative for beginners! The web is better, you can veiw video's on how too. I recommend a combo of the internet ([...]) and finding a friend or family member to show you!! Because the instructions for how to start are so bad in this book, I have no idea if the patterns in it are any good. They might be I'll never know... garbage is where this book is going I won't make someone else use this(Big big big waste of money!!!!!). If I had alot of previous (and I mean alot!)knitting knowledge already and was just restarting after so many years off, maybe this book would be handy, but for beginnners... Stay away!
