I bought this book, CD & DVD for my daughter and only wished I'd have been able to buy it for myself when I was her age! I'd have saved myself years of "pain for no gain" fumbling about in the musical dark.
This guitar method is a whole package. It includes an excellent, well-laid out and planned book and an accompanying DVD with a very laid back teacher. Each chapter of the book has an accompanying DVD track that illustrates the issues being raised in the book. So, what you don't get from the words is reinforced by the teacher. Brilliant!. However, the code in the book, that you also receive, allows you into the members' section of the excellent website that accompanies the course and there you will find all kinds of downloadable goodies (such as backing tracks tailored to your level, a guitar tuner, etc).
Basically, if you don't learn to be a competent guitarist with this set, you don't want to do it enough!

I originally rented the DVD and I liked it so much I bought it so that I could get my hands on the book that goes with it. Brilliant for a beginner, it gives an excellent introduction to rock music, with basic open chords, barre cords, rhythym playing, riffs, lead playing, pentatonic scales (not as hard as it sounds)etc... I really like the teachers relaxed style and you are not bombarded with too much information and you are very soon playing. Also check out the website where you can download backing tracks to play along with (the best way to learn, music is all about rhythem and timing which is hard to achieve if playing by yourself). Also on the website is online support and tablature for loads of popular songs all for free. To summerize A great and enjoyable introduction to rock music.

Must admit that I'm really pleased with this ! Have only been learning for a couple of months and i can actually understand and use this product.(Even my guitar teacher reckons it is pretty good)Well constructed without being too technical.The big plus is the access to online help and info,lots of downloads,assistance and pages of tab.
The final exercise looks like a real killer,I don't think I will be playing it anytime soon!!(but it gives you something to aim at)
